I just felt that one more year the younger players such as Sam, Joel, Daryl would have improved again. And no matter who was coach (Even Jimmy Lowes or Mcbannana) last season would have won something with the Wigan team.'"
Noble would not have won a thing with that team. It was very little different to the one he had in his last season. If ever there was a clearer indicator of the difference a coach can make it is how virtually the same Wigan team performed under Noble and then under Madge.
Noble was certainly a significant signing himself in 2006 but then so were Dobson and Fielden - players not available to Millward.

Very true. Mentioned a few times but one of the best things to happen to Wigan at the time, all be it wouldn't wish it on anybody, was Tim Smiths injury. That brought Sam straight into the line up and it didn't take him long to show us what he can do.
Another year with Noble would have seen a few more young ones departing the 'five drives and a kick' side. Noble did what was asked brilliantly, avoiding relegation, but he took us as far as he could with the team he had.

Wigan rugby league, hated, adored but never ignored
Terry Newton - 07.11.78 - 26.09.10 - R.I.P.: |
|
| Kris Radlinski - he was inspirational when he returned to help the club out in 2006 (although he was physical not fit) and I think his presence at Wigan is one of the reasons why the club has raised it's standards in many areas over the last couple of seasons.

| Michael Dobson without a doubt!
came in and dictated all the games by the scruff of the neck in Wigan's most desperate time since the 1980/81 season

| Madge - taught us how to win things again.
Player wise Pat Richards.
In the long term, IL will have a bigger influence over a longer period of time than either of the above.

| Most important person to join the club - Ian Lenagan. No explanation needed. No one else even gets close. What he has done for the club is fantastic. I wish he'd be a little more open about the deal over the use of the DW, but that minor gripe aside he has been incredibly good for this club and we are very, very lucky to have him in charge.
Most important player signing - Dobson. We would not have stayed up without him. His contribution to this club in that short period was absolutely immense.
Most important coaching signing - Noble. Not the greatest coach, but solid and was crucial in steadying the ship during a desperate period for the club.
I dread to think what would have happened to Wigan without those three.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

So your rubbishing the impact of Michael Maguire, Mark Bitcon, Kris Radlinski and Shaun Wane?
I strongly disagree, with Noble as coach in 2010 Warrington or Saints would have won the GF and we would have finished 4th at best, playing boring rugby and players like Mossop, Farrell, Charnley wouldn't have got their chances.
Most important - Ian Lenegan
Coach - Michael Maguire for changing the ethos
Player - Dobson for saving us from relegation

| Chairman: IL by a country mile
Coach: Magic Madge (inc the current backroom staff)
Player: Very tough to choose & agree with most of the names already mentioned, Andy Farrell also stood out. One of the worst most overpaid players we've ever had has got to be David Vaealiki who was always easy to spot on the field as his shirt was always clean the lazy so and so
