I am slightly edging on the side of maybe its "better the devil you know than the devil you don't" look at the Catalans etc.. maybe a new coach isnt the answer but a couple of extra players might be... I really don't think we are as far away from trophies as I thought early doors in the season..
Hey I am man enough to admit I was wrong... how many more are willing to admit that after what noble has done for us not only this year and the last few... that maybe getting rid now might be a bit hastie'"

| It was interesting to hear what Radlinski had to say about Noble in his book i.e. not very much. He had lots to say about the coaches he liked i.e. Gregory and Endacott plus plenty to say about the coaches he didn't think were good for Wigan i.e. Millward and Raper. At one point he referred to Noble's enthusiasm but didn't say much else. As Radlinski is now on the coaching staff he would hardly slag off Noble but if he thought he was the right man for Wigan long term then surely he would have said so. Instead he remained silent on the matter which said it all for me.

| I think Brian Noble will get another years contract. I did have a feeling that we would get a new assistant coach for next season ie Adrian Lam, but I don't think so now, as I did read somewhere in the past that Wigan wanted to promote from within the club. The situation with Brian Noble shoud have been handled better though. Same with Mickey Higham last year.
Perhaps Justin Morgan or that aussie chap doesn't want to come to the club till the end of next season!

I don't think it matters too much how it's handled publicly as long as behind the scenes Noble knows where he stands. And I'm lead to believe he knows that.

| Quote: DaveO "Just how much of a mess were we in playing wise? If we were that bad we would have been relegated regardless of Noble. With the addition of two players Millward did not have the luxury of having in his side we went from rubbish to a team no one wanted to play in less than half a season.
In other words Noble fixed the problem in less than half a season.
It is his complete failure to crack on from there and build on the momentum he got into the side in 2006 that has been the problem.
Far too much is made IMO of how bad we were in 2006 simply to give Noble something big he can take credit for. We simply can not have had such a bad side that the addition of a new coach and two players turned us from relegation candidates into a good side in a matter of weeks.
Dave'"
Exactly
Tbf if you look the 2006 side that Millward was sacked from it actually didnt perform much worse than the 2009 side this year in the first 10 games!!!
The only difference in 2006 was the form didnt pick up for another 5 games or so compared to this year. In reality it just shows that something is wrong in our seasons preperations as the first half of the season is never indicative of where we are as a team and the team that season was never as bad as the league table suggested even in the dark days when we were 8 pts of safety!
Comparing the two seasons
2006 - 2pts from 10 games 2009 - 6pts from 10 games
In the first 10 games in 2006 we could have easily sneaked wins in the wire, salford and catalans games, and have started that season better than this!!! So for all the hype that we were aweful....it was actually just a slightly worse start than usual....whos to say millward wouldnt have turned it around once we started playing on the drier tracks?
In reality its just how we start seasons at wigan for some unbeknown reason.....until we sort this we will never prosper come the end of the season as we will burn out and leave too much to do!! Look at our form in the 2nd half of every season and we're championship form, yet we kill our season every year before we start!!

The Communist Cap - dragging down success and aspiration to the levels of those who cba.: |
|
| I guess this is one of those topics that divides us more than most.
As I have said before though, Nobby's record speaks for itself.
We may start slow but (this year more so than ever) it's not about how you start, it's how you finish.
The reality is that Nobby has forgotten more about RL coaching that 99.99% of us on here (and Ian Leneghan) will ever know.
When you look at the facts, it is very very difficult to fault him.

How you start determines how you finish.
Ever since Noble has been here sides that started stronger than us went on to win the GF, we put up a gallant fight but lost as we left ourselves too much to do. Fact.
It is also true in general not just with us. Once and a while a side may buck the trend but in general the sides that finish at the top of the league contest the final with very few exceptions.

When you look last the facts and realise the poor starts over the last three season leave us at a disadvantage, his failure to get us to start the season with any form is a fault that stands out like a sore thumb.

| The poor starts have hurt us. But can we honestly say that we have had a potentially championship winning squad over the last 3 years?
Personally I think we have done as well as we could have.
That said, the squad is Nobby's this year.
I am still baffled by our lack of size in the pack as this was/is a Nobby trademark. There is no doubt SF has hurt us in this respect via his (alleged) salary, though he is nowhere near as poor a player as some on here would suggest.
Even so, we are very "un Nobby" like in the pack, and it's this that I find really strange. Maybe we will get to know the answer in his Autobiography.
