| Quality win. With the run in we have now we surely have to be favourites for top spot.

| Quote: Newton-Le-willows-Warrior "Absolute brutal second half performance and could have been 40 if charnley could kick a goal.
Hughes was fantastic, as was Finchy and gelling was very good on the wing aswell.
If you had been offered at the start of May that we could have beat Saints, Huddersfield, Saints, Leeds, Catalan with your first choice back row missing for two games and that we are sitting at the top of the table 3 points clear and in the semi of the challenge cup I think every one of us would say yes please!
What a team we have here and there is further improvement to come.
Hopefully the lads who arent on international duty enjoy their breaks and lets all get ready for the Widnes game!
The only negative coming out of todays game was the injury to Dudson, I hope its not a broken ankle but I fear the worst. At least Preccy and Flower will be knocking on the door again shortly.'"
Hear hear. Was such a tough run in the season, ad we've won every game. We've got some easier ones on paper now but we still need to keep this form going, maybe rest a few bodies here and there in anticipation for the CC semi in mid July.

| Quote: Deano G "Superb performance. Lots of missed conversions; in reality that was a sound beating we have just handed out to Catalans in France.
We are absolutely on fire at the moment.
Bad news re Dudson though.
Hughes has been quality today. I was going to say what a prospect this lad is, then realised that is being unfair to him. He's a top class SL player already. We are in danger of being embarrassed by our riches in the forwards.'"
Quality isn't he.
He's the next in a long line of quality 2nd rows Wigan have produced.
I remember a few years ago when Gaz Hock broke onto the scene Mike Greg said if Hock added a bit of bulk he'd destroy some teams.
Whilst Hughes is a big lad i think we can say the same about him. Once he adds some more bulk to his frame he's gonna be an international player.

And the chicken wing on Dudson?
Didnt someone drop a knee in on Huges when he scored?
One rule for Wigan another set of rules for the rest of super league. Pathetic.
Gareth Hock should change his name to Ryan Bailey and then he can headbutt anybody he likes.

Sorry, but when you headbutt someone there's something in it.

| 2 from 6 today for Josh, only blip on our recent performances. Don't want to be too harsh on the lad because he's playing excellently apart from his goalkicking, but his success rate is unacceptable and could easily have cost us, thankfully it hasn't. I make it just over 50% success rate which when you think Pat is usually around the 80% mark is a massive hit on points for us.

He can kick but to say he lacks consistency would be a very big understatement.
Do the club have a kicking coach? Maybe it's time we brought one in and tap into his obvious potential.

I fail to see this potential. He doesn't look like a natural goal kicker.

We have Paul Deacon. Surely he has something to offer.

He does nail some tricky kicks which to me shows he can do it.

I think there is a huge difference between being a great kicker yourself and being able to coach a player to be one.
He's probably got something to offer in showing how he practised or cut the crowd out but can he break the skill down into its individual parts, analyze a kicking style and make little but fundamental tweaks to it?

I'd still get him in front of a kicking coach to try and improve the average. Not addressing the issue is uncharacteristically unprofessional for Wigan.

| Some time he seems to strike them very well and some times he seems to get his technique all wrong and he seems to slice across it. Could well be a mental issue and he just doesn't like the extra pressure. I think Sam should kick against Widnes though.
As much as it hasn't cost us so far, it's an issue that definitely needs addressing. If Pat ends up out longer than anticipated we'd be going in to the back end of the season with clashes for top spot, CC semi and potential final and SL play-offs with a ~50% goalkicker, it will cost us eventually.

| I meant to start a thread last week in relation to Hughes but never did. I thought he was the standout backrower in the Leeds game, and watching him again today I thought the same again. He's becoming more comfortable and confident the more game time he receives, and it's showing in his performances. Tall, athletic, strong, quick, he's got the whole package.
