| Quote: "You only have to look at the clowns on Facebook’s “I’m From Wigan Me” to see the level of intelligence fans from both sides are displaying. It’s borderline embarrassing.
I might not be a Latics lover but I can see that this move would hugely benefit both sides. It’s a huge shame that some ‘fans’ are letting their ego and pride cloud their judgement. If anything is going to bring this proposal crashing to the ground (other than financial reasons) it’s this.'"
It would be interesting to see how these people react if their bluff is called.
Personally, I think there is far too much 'it's my way or the highway' going on in the world at present, often from people who don't actually have one ounce of leverage. This idea that 'if you don't think as I do, I'll take my ball home' … quite often when they don't even have a ball, is bizarre and pathetic, but also pretty poisonous.
The twin arts of compromise and negotiation are being slowly lost in the age of Twitter.
But … let's see if these online loudmouths really are ready to walk away from Latics when/if IL takes over. I'd like to bet that quite a few of them will discover that they're not quite so eager to give up their lifetime's interest for the sake of making a silly little point that no one else will even notice.

Perhaps they could get together in Moston with United FC & have a collective "oh woe is us" wingeathon.

| Quote: "They don’t but if there is enough ill feeling you could understand if Lenagan had a wobble and wondered if it’s all worth it. It’s a ridiculous situation to start with. Some Latics fans don’t like the rugby because of an incident with Maurice Lindsay nearly 40 years ago and comments made by him. He’s not been involved with the club for nearly 15 years now and you hear nothing but praise for Latics from the rugby owner and staff.'"
Since that incident with Maurice he has been employed by Wigan Athletic. Might not have a choice the fans. Whelan has already sold the club to a pup once. The administrators wont do the same as he did.

| Despite what the media spin is saying - do some people not realise that even IF Lenagan is successful (and that's a big IF at the moment), Wigan RL wouldn't own Wigan Athletic? The situation would pretty much be the same when Whelan owned both clubs, although I sense Lenagan might try to merge more elements than Whelan did (which was pretty much just the ticketing operation)

Nope. There’s some RL fans gloating that we’ll “own” Latics and charge them rent. There’s some Latics fans saying they’d rather see their club liquidate.
Honestly I these lot are giving CV19 deniers and anti vaxxers a run for their money at the minute. The convenience that it would be the same as when Whelan owned the club is suitably ignored as it doesn’t suit an agenda.
I sense the same as you re IFL, I think he has some ideas to bring the clubs closer together and it’s fans to support one another to maximise both clubs revenue and potential.

| For years all we have had is that we rent the stadium off the football,(which has worked massively in our favour over these last several months), when in fact we rented it of wigan football company limited who own 85% of the stadium and was bought during the initial takeover by i.e.c? But we have had it thrown at us that we rent of the football. But now apparently if IFL purchases the club from the administrators then its not the rugby buying the football.its just the same owner owning both. Surprising how fast things change eh?? One interesting thing i did pick up on is that the stadium owners haven’t had any sponsorship money for the naming rights since 2018 when takeover took place and wigan football club ltd lost 1.5m in 2019. First job must surely be get a sponsor for the stadium? Thats an rfl eddie stobart failure that.

Both clubs used to pay rent, but the company owned both as you say.
Little aspects around the stadium such as Latics fixings being permanent and rugby ones being stuck over the top was an indicator who was top dog. The stadium belonged to Latics in everything but name. It was originally done so that it couldn't be sold in this exact situation.
I'm not sure IFL is that petty and I think it will be 50/50 as far as costs and upkeep are concerned and both clubs will be able to maximise their profits on matchday.
I don't see any issues TBH, and think it's win win.
