Childs had picked up on the penalty but did not know the severity of the challenge.'"
The daft thing about all this is that I don't think people would necessarily have a problem with the referees getting more help - God knows they need it - but without more openness we just don't know what's going on, which is outrageous. Red Mountain seems sure of his/her position. My own experience would suggest he/she is wrong and your posts over the years on her suggest you know what you are talking about so my conclusion would be Ganson was in contact with Child.
I should add that while I don't have a problem with refs getting more advice Ganson would not be my first choice to advise any referee. His advice seemed not to be given when Saints were committing dangerous play against our players...

Whilst i agree that Ref's should get more help... It begs the question that IF Ganson advised, what would happen in a non televised game, with NO VR? That would leave us with two ways of officiating...

As it does at the moment with the video ref for tries.

Are you saying every punch is the same & should be a sending off, or no punches warrant a sending off, it's one or the other, whichis it? Presumably the punishment for each has to be the same for consistency? A broken jaw is the same as Woods girlie slap?
I agree, subject to my comments above.
See above.
Just a few years ago that would have been acclaimed a cracking tackle. Seymour was cautioned, end of. I presume Joe Westerman's presence was as hologram.'"
I think you're missing the point about consistency - there have been plenty of high late hits to the head that haven't resulted in a sending off.
MM's tackle deserved a sending off - many refs take an easy route and put similar incidents on report or just give a pen.
Punching is the easiest thing to be consistent on - it's either a punch or it isn't. The ref doesn't ask the player whether it really hurt or broke their cheekbone before deciding what to do. If you send one person off for it send everyone off who does it.
We may as well give refs the power to say some tries are worth more points than others - that was an easy try you only get 2 points for that..........

Ok, you must be correct, MM has committed the only late high tackle hitting the defender round the head this season.
So, I punch you onthe nose, one on the chin, one uppercut, one jab, one left handed, one right. Which one deserves sending off and which just a pen?

| There were two high tackles by Wakefield players against Catalan on Saturday. Neither were sent off. Damien Blanche looked concussed as a result of one of them. Platt was the culprit for the other one and the ref could be heard saying to him that he was lucky he caught the shoulder first or he could have walked. In the Huddersfield/Leeds game Kirke received a hight shot for which O'Donnell incorrectly received his marching orders. I'm sure there must have been many more high shots over the weekend.

| Of course every incident is different.
What you can say though is that any player who deliberately strikes another player to the head should be sent off.
That effectively is a minimum punishment because the disciplinary tribunal will then decide whether to impose a ban and what the length of it should be.
What we can say is that what happened to Lima is a B-C grade offence according to the sentencing guidelines, which should result in a ban of 1-3 games. Just being punished by a penalty seems insufficient....

| I listen in on a scanner to the referee, tough judges and video ref.
When MickyMac hit the tackle, the linesman said it was ok, then when the player did not get up, the ref stopped play and walked over to see what had gone on. Then, even though he had not been asked, Ganson shouted down the referee's ear,
'he made direct contact with the head, Direct Contact James, DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE HEAD'
It was obvious straight away that Ganson wanted him red carded and from that comment alone, Mr Child sent him off.
At half time, the ref was chatting to the touch judges and said, ' really did not see anything as I was blind sided, but Gans said there was direct contact so I thought I should send him off'
Whatever happened to the video ref saying nothing until asked, did we not learn that lesson when Ganson and Klein cocked up that grand final?
The RFL constantly deny that the fourth official or Video ref says anything, but after listening to them for the last few seasons you would be astonished at what is said.
Just watch on any TV game when the touch judges come in for a chat and don't actually say anything, the ref wll then say to them, yes, so you say he needs a card/penalty/castration....... and they all nod as the video ref has his say on proceedings that he has no right to comment on.
The day that the RFL make the referee's/ touch judges and vid ref's comments available to everyone by broadcasting them like other sports do, is the day that we can start to trust what is going on. Until then, the game is fixed and if I did not love my club, I would seriousley wonder why my money goes into such a crooked game.

| Interesting. You have verified what we all suspected at the time and that is Ganson sent him off.Ganson is a Saints' fan so he should not be in that position. Most Wigan fans agree that he should have been sent off but to have a Saints' fan as video ref is just not on.
