It also breeds envy.
These boards and the tolls that come onto here still bitter over our success show how bad it can get.

Or pragmatism.
I doubt anyone posting on this thread would hesitate to go to another firm if it was offering them a lot more money to do the same job they are doing now.

The points you agree with show the rules are plainly wrong and don’t favour the clubs doing GOOD for the game. Let’s not beat around the bush with this one the SC holds back the strong clubs, the ones that do good for the game by producing the likes of Smith, Inglis & Slater the ones that invest in top class coaches and methods.
If it punishes the good for the benefit of the lazy then the Storm are well in their rights to refuse to adhere to it. There is a term in politics called the tyranny of the majority which says what is right for the majority isn’t always the correct thing. Apartheid was voted in but isn’t acceptable same goes for slavery laws in the 60’s as well.'"
But they are breaking the law arnt they? I dont know if they have, not seen there books (either of them), however if the players arnt declaring the extra monies isnt that defrauding tax? I dont know but it cant be as clean as just a sport issue.

I guess they are but why are they doing it?
Is it cause they are risking their lively hoods and freedom to break tax laws or do they have to keep it secret because the NRL won’t allow them all to have both loyalty AND financial rewards?
I really think it’s time we stopped and looked at the negative impacts the SC has on our game.

| Why would you bring in Bellamy after "Madge" has romped to the 10 Game Title?
Love the person who said "god forbid" MM ever leaves Wigan

Lol the funny thing is tho you'd give anything to have a coach as good as Madge at Saints.
Lets face it, it scares you the way he's improved us beyond recognition in 6 months whilst Potters time at Saints have seen you decline at an alarming rate.
Maybe you wouldn't have lost the last game derby game at KR if you had Madge? Bet that loss hurt

They wont change it though, no matter what any team does. They certainly wont say well they are breaking the rules in the interest of the game, so lets change, them!

No, "let's face it" Potter has achieved more than MM has at Wigan. He's reached a GF with what Wigan fans keep telling us is a poor squad. MM may NEVER achieve that at Wigan.
Let's speak again in November about your wonder coach. He may well back up the early promise (my thought are that he probably will), he may well be another of the Wigan hero-today, villain-tomorrow types you've had so many of recently.
To say "god forbid" a coach ever leaves a club after a good start to a season (but achieving nothing) is ridiculous.

To bring someone else in - his former boss, especially - in a kind of consultancy role, would surely be embarrassing for him, even if it was only for a short stint.'"
spot on, we dont need bellamy, madge is workin miracles at Wigan at the moment and whether we win anything or not, he has got Wigan playing fantastic rugby and the fans are enthusiastic again. to bring in bellamy would be a complete insult to him and would show very little gratitude or trust for what he has done. I would be more concerned with melbourne coming looking for Madge as a replacement if bellamy is sacked.

You mean like Ashton did?
They can demand it all they want, but they won't get it if their club's up to the cap.

| thats a different thing. Successful clubs need to pay top dollar to keep hold of their stars as once they have won things they think they are worth more and other clubs start sniffing around. Ashton went mid season and to another sport.

I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make.
My point was that wanting what you're worth doesn't always equate with being greedy.
Players who ask for an increase and then go somewhere else because their club can't give it to them thanks of the cap are not necessarily baddies. They might just be being realistic about their short career. Most have families and want to look after them, etc.
Ashton is not an ideal example because Wigan's finances were being badly mismanaged at the time. But if he'd been on a decent wage to start with, he might have been less vulnerable to the approaches of RU.
And the RU factor is relevant, even if it is a different sport. If we police our salary cap very strictly, as we do, and they don't, they are always going to have the advantage over us. And that's something we need to think about when we next readdress the issue of the cap.
Note, I'm not saying do away with the cap. But we have to take some measure that will enable our top clubs to keep hold of the talent they've spent time and money developing - otherwise why bother developing any in the first place.

| Its always been the same in the sport, success breeds greed. When we were winning everything in the 90's I bet not many players took a pay cut to stay at the club. All im saying is that Melbourne have been successful for a while now with the same team. The same happened with Canterbury.

As I say, I think it's too simple to just call it 'greed'.
But we'll have to agree to disagree.
