| Quote: Earthworm Jim "Well the anti doping or whoever does these tests need to get smart.
there are rumours of drug abuse, so lets warn them we're coming to test them. Sounds like a great plan
They should just turn up, unannounced after training, a match, even the players house on a sunday morning and say i want a sample now.
i'm not disagreeing the players make sure they are clean when the tests come around. So the system is failing and need overhauling obviously.
Like i said the testers should be able to turn up, without warning, anywhere they choose to catch these players.'"
So then what happens?
<phone>
"Hello Mr Hock, we need a urine sample this minute."
"Sorry mate, I'm at the Trafford Centre with the missus. I can be there in half an hour."
"No good Mr Hock. See you at a WADA disciplinary."
It's a great idea in theory but there are far too many variables at play that could result in players wrongly being fingered just because they weren't available at the tester's whim.

Think that was for a different drug - a fat burning one.
I'm talking about this drug specifically which is used widespread in RL and has been for many years. Even some of our legends if rumours are to be believed.

Exactly, Wigan RL is on its knees and requires someone to come in and shake it up from top to bottom.
Certainly if there was a drug culture at the club, I'd encourage the RFL to take more tests. In this day of age its the only way we'd root them out.

| Not surprised by this at all but still gutted. I thought he was finally sorting himself out a bit this season but I guess not.
Get rid, he's embarrassed the club and the sport imho and what's worse is that we all 'suspect' he's not the only one.

| The only surprising aspect for me is that he's got caught. I doubt Saints would have had the success they've had over the years if the drug inspectors were a bit more on the ball with some of their star players
Saints do get tested, the banning of the Saints academy player for 2 years is all the proof you need.

| Quote: pieman in yorkshire "I wasn't condoning what he has done but given the google search on here about masking it and alleged widespread use in certain areas of society then it seems certain to me that he was stupid to get caught, a point that doesn't surprise me.
One question is, if the test is so easy to fool then, why not find a workaround
If the facts are correct with traces remaining for months then the RFL drugs test should include having a sample of hair taken as well.
This news is not only a bad day for rugby league but also a sad reflection on society today, it highlights the inadequacies of the testing system which obviously need to be more stringent.'"
You clearly state that you don't condone what he did but seem very concerned that he didn't try harder to cheat the illegal drug taking detection system, IMO it's not something that we should even be thinking of, the only question is did he take it or not.

The name of Wigan is going through the mud on and off the pitch, and it's time something was done to restore the reputation of the club.'"
The name Wigan RLFC has been stuck deep down in the mud for 3-4 years! Maybe longer! I thought Lenegan was going to resolve some of these issues? What did he say at he first fans forum when he asked who felt that the name of the club was tarnished and most people ir not all agreed? Well Mr Chairman, its much more than tarnished now...more like deep set stainage

Long time since I've been up King Street (and not just cos I live abroad).
Why pay to get in somewhere where you have to almost pish yourself cos there are 2 or 3 lads in the toilet chalking up.
The place is a mess.

I see your point, it won't happen because it'll potentially be like a bomb going off with potentially a good few people being caught.
To me that's sad and suggests a mild form of acceptance that it does happen in professional sport, but as long as we catch some of 'em then that's ok.
Look at the Bath RU problems. The club supposedly asked several players to take additional tests and they all resigned. To balance this up, I should say that this issue is still ongoing and nothing has been proved either way.

| Wonder what Tim Smith thought when he was brought over to sort out his problems and then saw Hock has alledgedly doing this.
Surely someone within the club knew?

Be realistic. They might say they do that but they don't. Clubs will do what they can to keep hold of a player, especially good ones if they can, players = winning =trophies=money.
Players only get caught when they totally fu@k it up.

The coaching job for whoever takes it has just become a whole heap bigger/tougher!
We need an absolute monster of a coach to come in a discipline this shower of sh*te!
I said last week i wanted Brian McDermott............................even he may not be tough enough to whip these wasters into shape!

Ideally and realistically are two very different things I'm sad to say in professional sport.
