I think you’re downplaying and being a but disrespectful to what Croft has done this season.

With regards to Field I don’t think he’s taken that much of a back seat, he’s normally been the one feeding French for his try’s and for me rightly won our player of the year and should win man of steel.

I'm not sure how many times Field has got 3 points recently with French taking centre stage.

I can see Welsby winning it TBH

That really wouldnt surprise me but it would be a travesty, ala Barrett not winning it, if Welsby got it

Owing to some of the farcical winners in the past I don't give much credence to this award.

Field, French, Croft would have been my 3 and in that order

Honourable mentions to Welsby, Roby (standard) Passi, Lomax, Farrell, Marshall, Levi, Sio, eeeerrrr..... Can't think of anybody else worth a mention. Smith clicked midway through the season and has been outstanding since.

If Lewis Dodd hadn't have got injured and had carried on his form he would have certainly been in the top 3 conversation.

What about the top 3 flops? Big money earners who haven't delivered.

I would have given split the award to French and Field.

Hard for us to judge as Wigan fans but if you asked randomly super league fans who they thought the best player in the league was this year I’d wage 80% would say French or Field.

Field's chances will have been reduced due to the way points are awarded as Bevan will have picked up most points on offer in Wigan's recent matches.

IMO for every spectacular try Bevan has scored another one has been made by Field, but when you score 3 in a game that goes less noticed.

I think Field deserves it this year - just look at the interest he's generated across the whole rugby community and from people who usually hate all things Wigan. That tells you a great deal that he's been the stand out performer.

Croft has been very good too and Welsby also, but for me the stand outs are Field then close second Croft

the system favours good players in average teams, rather than the 'best' player in a team of superstars, and we've seen this again and again with Hastings, every Cas winner, Houghton, Gale etc etc.
I wonder how many points Jai picked up when Bevan/Marshall is scoring several tries per game...

Am I right in thinking the points system only selects the top 3 and then Hanley and whoever else choose who they think should win it from that 3? Could be wrong but thought that came out last year when McShane won it and talk was he’d not got the most points.

The system is all wrong anyway and isn’t fit for purpose.
