| Quote Grimmy="Grimmy"We probably need to try to keep to this razzle dazzle style IMO. Chance our hand a bit more and back the skills of Hastings, Farrell, French, Gildart, Burgess and Smith (when he gets a game!). If we try to play safe percentage rugby up the middle then Walmsley & Co are bound to come out on top unless they completely choke. Of course if it's hammering down or we drop balls then it can result in a long day'"
Inclined to agree. My only hesitation is that when we do play razzle dazzle style; if it comes off we look incredible and our confidence just grows and grows (similar to what’s happening tonight) but when it doesn’t our heads drop and we run out of ideas and the opposition just overwhelm us. Salford tonight have been poor and made it easy for us, when we’ve made mistakes generally Salford have gifted possession back to us and we’ve scored. Saints won’t allow that to happen.
As long as we keep our heads up when it inevitably goes wrong, and our forwards do the tough stuff down the middle as Bullock and Singleton have tonight, keeping Walmsley quiet - we stand a chance of our razzle dazzle style working and getting the win.

I feel like I'm saying this most weeks (win or lose), but the sign of a good team & coach is the gap between their best and worst performances.
Tonight's been a real high & fantastic too watch, but it just highlights to that we're either Jekyll and Hyde, or fair weather side.

I'm not defending Lam (we shouldn't renew his contract) but what team doesn't have a poor performance in them? Wane's Wigan had plenty even though he won trophies. Maguire only had one but he was only in charge for two seasons.

I don't think you've understood what I'm saying. Every team will lose and have a bad week. That's sport.
Good teams (which is what we want to be) don't tend to fluctuate much though. They stick in games and can play the conditions.
FWIW I loved Wane, but I don't think he's a super coach & the reasons above are probably why.

| Ultimately now the game next week v Saints is a real acid test. Can we maintain the good form we’ve shown tonight? Saints won’t allow us the room or time to exploit them like Salford did tonight. The stats, other than meters gained, are fairly even which backs up how clinical and ruthless we were.
The other point is that tonight was a reasonably dry track. Next week may not be and for whatever reason we tend to be poor on wet pitches.
That was a good, solid win where we played more or less for the full 80mins at a high tempo and relentless pace. Salford couldn’t live with us. That needs to carry over into next week, it’s no good beating Salford then getting leathered by Saints.

| French was just unreal. I still feel we’re a team of individuals rather than a group of individuals making up a team but there was some pure brilliance from French and a few others. I think we saw that there is simply no point in flogging a dead horse with Clubb and Flower. They were ‘ok’ but in Singleton, Bullock and Partington we’ve got a decent 3 and Havard makes it 4. As soon as is possible we need to move Flower/Clubb on and look to find a Liam Watts style prop to compliment the other lads we’re building up.
Tonight was very good but hand on heart I still feel we’re a bit short in terms of winning a Grand Final. Just to compete in a semi final would be a start.

| Yep, we need to be at the very least competitive with Saints next week, something we haven't been close to since the last time we beat them which seems like forever ago.
Shame Havard isn't available, as said above, him, Partington, Bullock and Singleton would be a more than decent rotation.

Amen to that! Singleton looked impressive again, and Bullock and Partington did well. If French does return to the NRL, (but I still wonder of Parramatta either want or need him?), his stay at Wigan has done his career a power of good. He is so much improved from his first arrival, more confident in defence both under the high ball and in his positional play, and that confidence has obviously fed through to his attack, which was sensational tonight.

| Some really entertaining rugby to distract from a particularly low evening for me during this pandemic. Bevan has X factor written all over him - on a dry track with space he's scintillating. Good to see our forward pack really dominate for a change - having bigger, more experienced forwards in there was refreshing.
The opposition were poor and ultimately Lam will be judged by our play off performance but great to watch the team show what they can do.

I doubt he will play FB there with Gutho.
