| Quote bbc="bbc"Salford are also hoping to employ suspended Cronulla Sharks coach Shane Flanagan in a consultancy role on a short-term basis. '"

If he brings the drug cabinet with him, that might explain the Doctor's plan to conquer the world

| I just don't see him as having the charisma to be a head coach.
I have said all along I don't get the hype about Salford, their team is average at best and Noble was a shocking appointment. With Harris sadly I think it could be a frying pan to fire scinario.

Just the coaching?
Its widely reported that Koukash personally has a go at the players when they lose. Isnt that undermining the coach?

| I don't understand this appointment from Salford's point of view.
Koukash has money to burn so if he wanted a new coach why not try and do what Wigan have done in the past and bring in someone who can really offer something new? I am talking about how we did it with Lowe in the 80's and Madge replacing Noble. Look at the difference they both had and Madge turned a virtually identical team Noble has into GF & CC winners.
This appointment would not inspire me as a Salford fan. I am not saying Harris doesn't have the potential to be a good coach but I can't see him being as influential as Lowe or Madge were at Wigan in terms of shaping a side with potential into real contenders.

| Does anyone actually believe that Nobby was ever a good coach?
IMO he took over Matty Elliot at the Bulls and of a squad of players that didn't require any "super coach" in charge at that time as they were such a star studded bunch of players
Nobby has never ever left any lasting legacy junior wise at any club he has been at, and he is only a short term coach at best
His immediate improved performances of a poor Crusaders squad and there best ever finish surely indicate this do they not?
I actually think that Harris will be a great head coach, although he will be thoroughly tested at Salford by Dr Kockrash

At Wigan, Nobby was better than we'd had before in Millward and Betts. He re-energised the squad and re-organised the team. He was also good in publicity terms. But the oft-quoted cliche about him having no Plan B became evident after a while. Tactically, he was weak, and his limitations became apparent when the new-look Wigan team started challenging for trophies again but were never able to go the last few yards. There were also stories about him feeling challenged by Trent Barrett, and basically denying him involvement in match planning, which anyone with knowledge of the game would realise was ridiculous - Barrett was a treasure trove of strategy, which we could have made much better use of.
The other thing is - Maguire came along and in one season turned the team Nobby had failed to win trophies with into Champions.
I still think Nobby did his bit in resurrecting Wigan as serious contenders, but only the way Alex Murphy did in the early 80s - restoring their self-belief, before a much better coach came along and turned that into worthwhile silver.

| Could be interesting when we play them as Harris knows us inside out, letting one of our management team go to the opposition at this point in the season seems strange when we wouldn't let Hock play against us last year!

No, I don't. People forget when he came here in 2006 he came with Fielden and Dobson. I doubt he'd have pulled us out of the fire without the addition of those two players.
I started raising doubts on here in the 2007 season as the longer it progressed the more obvious it became we looked very average when with the players we had we should have been playing better. I also questioned his recruitment of players like Millard and Withers who were past it.
This wasn't a popular stance to be taking given he saved us from relegation but ultimately it was proved right as we had three years of underachievement and Barretts time here was wasted by Noble.
His policy of playing his favourites whenever at the expense of giving young players a chance was just awful. He blamed Golding for a defeat at Leeds and we hardly saw him again (I think he was injured for part of the time but even when he had recovered his face clearly didn't fit).
It's easy to forget these things when you just think he saved us from relegation but looking at his tenure here with all the resources he had at his disposal, the lack of success and how Madge turned a virtually identical team around should have convinced anyone he isn't that good a coach.
