True, but why let reality get in the way of pessimists and prophets of doom?
This is Wigan, after all. We only won our first trophy in 8 years two days ago, and already there are people who, with no facts at their fingertips at all, are having very bad feelings about next year.

| Quote DaveO="DaveO"Hansen is better than all those young players mentioned and he's better than Bailey (who is leaving anyway). Hock won't be back for 6 months in 2011 and is supposed to be returning on peanuts. Hoffman's deal is also only for 1 year initially and no guarantee he will take or be given two years. So we would start 2011 with only JT and Hoffman as the senior back row players if Hansen left and come 2012 if Hoffman goes home we have to hope those young players end up as good as Hansen. There is also no guarantee Hock will be as good as people think when he comes back and wasn't the accepted wisdom of the message board he would go to prop (ditto Mossop)?
It would be very short sighted not to retain Hansen IMO.
Dave'"
But we're basing the move on the presumption that he's been offered bigger money elsewhere. For me, he's a work horse type player. Very good defensively and solid in attack, but isn't on the same platform as Joel Tomkins and Ryan Hoffman. Based on performances in the academy and reserves and early indications within the first team Liam Farrell, Lee Mossop and even Chris Tuson have shown they can develop into a just as good, if not better player than Harrison Hansen. Therefore, in my opinion he isn't worth the extra money and salary cap space he'd be demanding to stay within the club.
Anyway, as the above posts point out. It appears to be a load of BS anyway.
But it would be a good talking point if it was true.

| The writer of that article has probably heard that a second row at Wigan is moving to Salford, put 2 and 2 together and ended up with H instead of Phil Bailey.

How can you say that? None of them are currently as good as H and potential means nothing unless they fulfill it.

I think they'll fill that potential.
In 2011, I think Joel Tomkins, Ryan Hoffman and O'Loughlin will be our starting back rowers.
In 2012, I think Joel Tomkins, Liam Farrell and O'Loughlin will be our starting back rowers.
Taking into account the current players, young players and overseas signings for the next few years, his future role will be mainly for impact off the bench.

We need strength off the bench.
I appreciate we have the likes of Faz, Mossop and Tuson waiting in the wings but personally while I do not think it would be the end of the world if he left I still feel more confident with Hansen being part of our regular back row rotation for 2011.
One lad that needs to really kick on and justify his 5 year deal is Mossop, I appreciate others were sniffing round but a 5 year deal is a big investment and he needs to really improve and justify a place in the 17 next year.

Agreed jon. Mossop's undoubtedly got the potential and has shown it during games, but he's lacked consistency in doing it. I'd say Lee's in a similar position to which Joel was a few years back, immense potential and very good when on form, but just not on form enough. Now if Madge and Wane can work their magic and have a similar effect on Mossop during this upcoming off season that they had on Joel this year, Lee will be a great boost to our ever blossoming team.

We do, and how it stands with Hansen is fine as he does a good job.
But if a club is offering Hansen a starting, pivotal role for bigger money, I wouldn't even tempt to match it considering the talent we already have within the position and the salary cap restrictions.
(Just to reiterate, this is a hypothetical tread as there's no evidence to suggest Hansen is leaving)

| Quote Rogues Gallery="Rogues Gallery"I'd hate to lose "H".
He's 24 years of age, and has performed consistently on his time at Wigan. He's a player who appears to love the physical side of the game and is another one who has really improved under the new regime. Very much a younger version of Phil Bailey in that he does the little things in the game that go unnoticed very well, and I think he could make a really good p[rop forward in his later years.
Bad mistake IMO to let him go, but I suspect (hope) it's only speculation.'"
Some very good points raised here. Harrison Hansen at 24 is starting to come into the prime of his career as a forward & his development has accelerated considerably this year. It would a huge mistake and a massive waste of investment (he's been here since he was 18) to let him go to another club to benefit from a Harrison Hansen who is coming into the best years of his career.

I agree. As I said in my initial post on the topic he is not pivotal to the success of the team, despite being a quality player non the less.
