IIRC - There was paper talk of Wigan being favourites to sign Lomu around the mid nineties to replace the outgoing Offiah. Never sure if there ever was any truth in it, but I do remember feeling the excitement of such a world class player being signed.
I remember back in the mid nineties the feeling that Wigan really could attract 'anyone' in the world back then, such was their pulling power, however this co-incided with his temendous 1995 World Cup performance plus the emergence of professionalism within club RU unfortunately.

Watched the middlesex 7s with wigan in the final against wasps last night and it was awsome-
shows the quality of rugby and in unions back yard.

But yeah you can’t deny Wigan the best rugby league side of all time honour. The trophy cabinet just tells a more successful story than the other ones in our great game.

I’m sure whichever team overtakes Wigan as the most successful team as all time will be very special indeed and lets hope we see it in our lifetimes.

nah, The Mail have got it spot-on with 1995 as the end of THAT team and the end of an era..... for me May 1995 saw 'my' favourite team start to disband, when Phil Clarke, Denis Betts and Frano Botica all went to pastures new, in 1994/5 the side became the first team of modern times to complete the grand slam of Regal Trophy, League Championship, Challenge Cup & Premiership....

The picture on my wall of the 1995 Cup final says it all with all my heroes on it, the only slight anonomoly was that Mr E Hanley is on it ..... but wearing a Rhino's shirt !
