I could just eat an Uncle Joes Mintball now.
They're on about moving? Why dont they buy the rest of the row of terraces?
Would be a shame to move even if it is moving with the times as its part of Wigans heritage, they should turn it into a museum if they do move.

| Looking like little Wigan are staying in the Premier League for another season.
Nevermind, they might let Wigan RL be the big name in the town again soon

| Having being struck by thieves and having an expensive Motorbike ive decided to put a concrete garage at the side of my house.
Does anyone know the planning law. Would i need planning permission. The garage is less than 50% the size of the land around the house and its only a single story?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

| if your garage is going to be detached you don't need planning permission but need planning consent in other words send in simple plan to council size etc . once you get that you can go ahead and build without the need for local building inspectors to come down

| That reply is wrong you do need a building inspector to come out due to damp course air vents etc..

| You would need to speak to building control at the council, for several reasons.
Firstly, they will be able to tell you, from the details on your project, whether planning permission would be needed.
If you don't ask, you can bet your life that the council will see their backside over it, and start making problems for you, insisting you should have done this, or should have done that, and may ultimately make you apply retrospectively for planning permission, which they could of course, kick out on principle and make you pull it down.
The safest bet is to toe the line, sadly.

| Just call the planning office and speak with them, it's not going to cost you any money.
I thought the simple rules were something like if it's a permanent structure (e.g. not a shed)
and/or
- roof line change
and/or
- the structure is closer to the pavement/road than any of the other existing structure
and/or
- more than a 20% volume increase to the existing property
if any of the above are true it's going to hit planning. If not then it may just be building control required.

put your money were your mouth is? why would you need vents on a detached garage? YOU DO NOT NEED A BUILDING INSPECTOR IF YOU ARE BUILDING A DETACHED GARAGE IF IT ISNT ATTACHED YOU DO IDO THIS FOR A LIVING

You'll need to get permission from Dave Whelan.

| A little known fact but Frankie Howerd invented social networking. He called his first effort, 'Twitter ye not'.
