| Didn't get to the game due to holiday but watched game on tv.
Agree with most comments on MM, ST and TD in particular. I also thought that Sutton played well and appeared to play longer minutes which hopefully will continue.
The last couple of games we have played a much more uptempo game and we look more dangerous across the park. Hope we can keep it up for Friday and give Leeds a good tonking

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| I don't suppose this makes it any clearer, but this is what grounding the ball for a try is....
Quote: ".
a) Placing the ball on the ground with hand or hands, or
b) Exerting downward pressure on the ball with hand or arm, the ball itself being on the ground, or
c) Dropping on the ball and covering it with part of the body above the waist and below the neck, the ball itself being on the ground.'"

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| Couple of non-game related observations from yesterday. One bar open in the South Stand? 25 minute queue for a beer and over £4 a pint.
Secondly, at those prices - what fool thinks it's a good idea to throw it over the fans below when we score a (disallowed) try?

Yeah, it isn't getting a mention but on the whole the Salford fans reaction to the game has been pretty humble.
Humble for a reason, they know and everyone else knows that they couldn't string together any kind of useful passage of play in the 2nd half, they were crap across the park, and it wasn't down to Wigan.
I dunno if they bottled it or what but they came out flat, by the time they got their 4r5e5 in to gear it was half over and had begun to rain, there was no coming back from that.

Apart from the ones throwing bottles at the Wigan team, you mean?

Of course. They'd still have lost even if they'd been playing no one. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time to benefit from it.

Another of those fiendish Wigan plans, you see. Because rain only ever affects the opposition.

| For me the game summed up perfectly the frustration of being a Wigan fan. We showed at times what a good side we are and how much potential is in this side then in the same game showed who naive and poor we can be.
I do think the ref was poor, however at times we were our own worst enemy giving him no option but to ping us especially the the second 20 of the first half. It did also seem that the bounce of the ball was going Salfords way too which if I am honest had me worried as it seemed like things were transpiring against us.
We showed real desire however to claw the momentum of the game back and ultimately win it relatively comfortably I felt.
It was good to see our Props lay a platform which allowed us to gain that momentum. Personally felt FPN has his best game maybe ever for us. Ran with real aggression and Sutton supported him very nicely.
MMwas outstanding in attack and defence. Gildart and Davies though were a real highlight for me. Davies is a machine so tough and hardworking and it is easy to forget Gildart is still a baby, we have a real talent on our hands there with him. To maintain his form after his injury spell is a fantastic achievement.

| That's a great point about Gildarts form Post injury. He himself said he was still feeling a bit of pain in his back for the first few games and that his form took time to come back. I beg to differ! It was like he'd never been away and he just keeps getting better. I posted his record on the VT the other day, including the Cronulla game he has 10 try's and 7 assists in 12 games. He should be seriously in the thoughts of Wayne Bennett for the World Cup imo.

| A word about Burgess, at the ground along with most people I suspect I was disappointed at his apparent loss of pace and the way he was taking the ball up, two losses in contact IIRC and getting pushed into touch when there was absolutely no reason for it , but watching the game back on the 11th min he's running a kick return back, flying, but just before contact he loses his footing and looks like he cracks his knee against an opponent and was struggling from that point.
Credit to him for sticking it out for the remaining 70 mins because it looked like it could have really hurt.

Think there's been a few times this season where he's looked 10% off.
He's still better than most in this league, but I wonder if it'll be worth giving him some rest for a couple of weeks now Manfredi is approaching full fitness.

I remember him getting caught by a 35 year old second rower (Minichello) against Hull away as well. Maybe worth a week or two off for him with Marshall stepping up.

| Manfredi is in contention this weekend. I'd put him on the right with Davies moving over to the left wing.

Not for me.
For me now, Manfredi/Davies on the right. Burgess/Marshall on the left. Let people play on the side they usually play on. Marshall deserves more chances after some of the tries he's scored this season. I still think he's our best finisher.

I'd agree with that.
