Quote: Owdpopularsider "Jeez when will Wire address this problem? It happened all the way through the 70's 80's 90's 00's now this. Back in the 80's it got so bad even the famous 'Goon Squad' came along for some biff.
Even though we keep getting told its a minority this minority counts into the 100's not just a couple of lads asking for it, just check out the amount of 'casuals' who spend the whole game goading the opp fans. Leigh getting smashed up a few years ago a prime example, there was 2 bus loads that turned up that day outside the Leigh Arms(I was there).
As said before Wire need to get their house in order on and off the field, just check out Briers behaviour in the past and Myler, Mathers's towards opp fans last night.'"

Understand your anger but feel you are addressing it to the wrong people. The club can't do anything about what happens outside the ground. The fans can't do anything about what happens outside the ground. There is no point in the club banning these idiots if they aren't going to the game in the first place. Personally I think they need to knock that pub down! Ring the police number and make your complaints. The police need to do their job and have a presence on that stretch of road on match day because it's not the first time there has been trouble there.

Quote: Wire_Yed "Helpful that, really

FWIW Wire Yed all the Wire fans I met in the pub pre and post game were fine so I don't think the 'scum' comments are aimed at the majority of right minded Wire fans, just the numpties who look for aggro and punch women.

Sadly whether we like it or not every club has their idiots who are all usually tanked up and have no real interest in the rugby. Like you said in an earlier post the start time didn't help and neither did the fact it was a sell out. Plenty of pub time for the boneheads to get warmed up.

Oh yes they can!! If they can offord 1,000's to pay for Jedward to blast out a tune they can offord for a few extra coppers to patrol the central station area.
Just ask the FA if they think its West Ham's fault their fans rioted around the ground V Millwall.

don't get too upset about it. Emotions are running high considering the horrible acts that occured. The more level headed of us know it's a minority that are spoiling it for the majority. I'd also like to congratulate yicker and hogan on the way they are conducting themselves on this matter. Neither are tarring all Warrington fans with the same brush.

Overall a horrible, horrible set of incidents which could have ended with someone getting seriously hurt. Thankfully it's just some bruises and a ruined shirt and good to hear that it's not put dawn off visiting the HJ again. I can't say I would be visiting again after something like that.

I'm speechless reading what happened to you. It's a really sad ending to what had actually been a great night.

Hogan & Yicker, to echo whats already been said, I hope you both get on the right side of things quickly and the police catch & deal with the thugs.

Thankfully didn't suffer any problems outside the ground post-match, or on the walk back to Bank Quay - myself plus GF were both wearing some red items which would've probably shown us up as Wigan fans, but we made a pretty swift exit and had a fast walk on. Did see a couple of police cars go screaming out of the station in the street opposite Bank Quay station as we arrived there, though, so assumed there'd be a thread like this today. Sympathies for anyone caught up in trouble.

We were stood next to the block of Wire fans towards the end of the terrace and it could easily have caused problems with the right mix - when they crossed for the second time in the first half, some knob came over hopping from leg to leg, splashing his two pints all over the show and singing songs about hating "Munich scum", oddly enough. If his beer had gone any closer to my GF, there'd have been words had, and anyone a little more fired up would probably have gone further. Sadly, he didn't come back at the final hooter to discuss the finer points of the scoreline.

Some goon also went out of his way to do the whole shoulder-barge thing at the bottom of the steps as we were clapping the team off, too. All it takes is for the wrong person to be on the receiving end and you've got a proper incident on your hands. Not seen anything like it at other grounds, and it's the sort of behaviour that needs to be stamped out from all corners.

Cheers mayte.

I can almost guarantee that the blokes who started this didn't attend the game, it was obvious that they where waiting for the Wigan fans to walk past and cause the trouble.

Maybe its me being naive when expecting the Wire fan to shake my hand and move on, that was the intention! But he thought it was more appropriate to head butt me. I have had worse on the Rugby pitch, but hitting women is just unacceptable.

One comment that stood out from the bloke who head butted me was when a group of young lads walked past he shouted "Are you Wigan or Wire" the lads replied 'Wire' so he then shouted "Well come on then lets f**king have um" Seriously like a scene from Green Street! Its actually comical!

I wouldn't tar all Warrington fans with the same brush, far from it. I know lots of Wire fans who are great lads. Its a shame that it appears to be the same fans, same area and unfortunately the same outcome.

Maybe some good will come from this, and once i get in touch with the Police again, the Wire club. Maybe we can get more police presence around that area and people will feel safer in future.

I will post on this topic, the outcome of my phone calls.

Cheers

They were probs just idiots who never went the game. I used to live across the road from the pub and regulary saw trouble there.

They were looking for a fight, lots of macho bravado "get the f#ck out of my town" etc.

Not much the club can do really. It's a culture problem in warrington and more likely involved ppl who were not even at the game.

Disgusting. Me and my dad never wear our colours when we go to Warrington, for this exact reason. We park up as close to the ground as possible and get away asap. Sorry to hear what happened to you Hogan, I hope you and your girlfriend are okay today and that the police find who was responsible. I don't think we can blame the club, because, If people want to 'Have a go' they will, and theres no way the club will stop it. As you say, they probably didnt attend the game and just stayed in the pub ready to cause trouble.

must admit i didn't attend last nights game due a reluctance in taking my kids to the HJ.
On a slightly less violent note but, for me, maybe more worrying was the image of half a stand of home fans gesticulating with 'the bird' and various other hand gestures at any incident that went Wires way, most opposition fans laugh, cheer and ridicule opponents for mistakes etc but sadly there seemed to be a collective mass of uncontrollable anger, my previous views of a miniority of nutters was close to changing last night...... very sad

There were a few Wire fans outside the pub in colours but the majority weren't. Saw the lad being kicked and punched whilst on floor and his Wigan shirt being held up by a "Wire fan" with it on fire but hadn't realised they tried to set it alight whilst he was wearing it! icon_eek.gif

It didn't matter what age or sex you were....and like Hogan said on a previous post...it was like a scene from Green Street at times!

Not read the full thread, but seen Craig's first post on here, Scotty's status on Facebook and Dawn has posted on the Wire thread aswell.

Sorry to hear what's happened fella......and Dawn.........and hope that whoever carried out this cowardly sickening attack is hauled up and brought to justice quickly. If they have CCTV footage, then hopefully it will only be a matter of time before they catch the prick responsible.

Unfortunately I can't help with anything, as I was walking home in the opposite direction back towards the 3 Pidgeons and Bank Park with my earphones in so wouldn't have seen or even heard anything.

Odenwingie - Not all Wire fans are scum as you so eloquently put it. Yes, we do have our element and I really hope the club gets it sorted out.

I know a lot of the guys/gals on here, and they are all decent folk and I hope that it's reciprocated.

If recent success on the pitch gets you fans like this joker who goes around with his fists, then you have to wonder what it's all about. We do seem to have attracted a darker element recently and I for one am not impressed with it in the slightest.

I hope you both recover from your injuries. Take it easy.
