| Quote: Angelus "I've genuinely never heard the term before so I'm looking at it and now. I understand the social part, not so much the political part. I guess wanting equal rights is the political part?
I stand by saying being gay isnt a sociopolitical issue, but I understand why pride events would be'"
Yes, that's the distinction I'm making. In no way was I aiming any comments I've made at the state of being gay. It's specifically being marketed as a Pride event. I have no problem whatsoever with Pride as a movement either btw. I'm only raising a point about why one socio-political movement should be favoured over others when there is no specific connection to either the Wigan club or rugby league in general.
If they'd marketed it as, say, an 'inclusion event' and aimed it at minority, disadvantaged or disenfranchised groups from any walk of life then I can see an argument for it as it isn't excluding other equally worthy causes. I still wouldn't be convinced of the validity of a sporting club making these, what should be personal, decisions for it's supporters but at least it would, by default, be more representative of it's target demographic.
It's been an interesting debate but the rugby season has started now so I hope you'll excuse me if I respectfully bow out of the conversation here. Have a good season.

| The thing that continually disappoints me is that in today’s society there is a reason to have such an event.
As a society we are intent on labelling and grouping everyone whether that be by race, religion or sexuality etc. For me that only further divides people.

Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

Spot on. If we want homophobia irradicated and everyone treated the same regardless of sexuality then stop making a big song and dance about being LGBTQ. Keegan Hirst is know as an openly gay prop, the TV crews go and get sound bites off him when there’s a story about being gay, in realty he’s just a crap prop.

| also, I think its crap having these days too. and think its juts a gimmick. Like any of the days we do also, for example, my mum has never been to a match because its mothers day as she doesnt go to the rugby and thats it, my family members who are current and ex service men have never been to the rugby as its service day, any amount of money I feel spent on the events is money wasted. If they was to be a pride event it needs to be sport wide, like the NRL and NFL, when they do salute to service, cancer or womans day.

However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Not everything is about attracting fans. Sport is a great medium to spread awareness on societal issues like inclusion and discrimination.
It might be money wasted on you but it might benefit players/staff/fans who are struggling with these issues.

Spreading awareness on societal issues, is it not a bit preachy? That’s what gets me, if I wanted to go a Pride event I’d go to one, I just don’t want them hijacking a rugby game.

I find this quite interesting.
He sued Rugby Australia for £7.4m, arguing he was a victim of religious discrimination, reaching a financial settlement in December.
So, if the RFL refused his registration would they have found themselves in court too?

Yes. Same as the NRL would have done too. There’s nothing either board could have done or do to prevent any club signing him.

| Wigan considered signing Folau. I knew the pride march was a publicity stunt. I hope their community see through it.
