Can I just say it's good to get these things 'from the horse's mouth' so to speak. Conjecture can be very entertaining and all that, but sometimes these rumours need nipping in the bud. Cheers Ian.

Very true.
And that message will reach those off the forums too. Unfortunately, these forums are accused of ''starting rumours'' which some people get fustrated about, but they are only rumours that have originated around town, in amateur club houses, training, games and mostly people within the game itself.

I wish.
No doubt by tomorrow morning some other crackpot rumour will be circulating among the 'everything the club do is wrong' brigade.
Still, kudos to the chairman for coming on here and providing clarification.

| Quote: jonh "It is difficult to say he got i right last week as we will never know how Ainscough would have gone in the same game instead of Roberts, but what we can say he picked a winning team last week and played on the weakness' of the Saints wingmen with the kicking game, Roberts used his height to set up the first try so that worked for him.
Looking at the Wakefield team as it perhaps will be they will have Grix and Peterson who i would say on the high ball are probablly more solid than either of the Saints wingmen, but both are flawed in other areas, areas i think Ainscough is better suited to exposing over anybody in our squad.
Its a big call from the coach and to be honest I think Roberts is playing himself into some form, i think it is an insite into BN's way of thinking though as he is taking the low risk option by playing Roberts and Pat on the wing over Ainscough, which in his position is probably the right call.'"
I am now sure that BN ran over Jonh's cat at some point in the past.
You can never disprove a negative. To suggest so is insane.
Suppose Wigan lost by 6 points last Saturday.
I suppose you would have come on here posting "We will never know if that was the right decision, maybe if we had played Ainscough, we would have lost by 30 points".
Nope, thought not.

As i said for the game plan he selected Noble got it right pointed to a few occasions where having Roberts was clearly the way we wanted to play.
All i am pointing out is we don't know and never will how Ainscough would have gone.
I think it shows a certain negative mentality dropping Ainscough after a 4 try performance but i understand the reason he did it and it paid off.
Other aspects of the game plan Noble should be praised for much more than the selection of Roberts over Ainscough.

| Anyone who saw Ainscoughs performance in the reserves v Saints would confirm that Noble did make the correct decision last week.

It would appear so. I just hope though that work is being done with SA on his defence (and confidence). It would be a disgrace if all that potential was lost to Wigan and RL in general as a result of a failure to develop him as a player.

| Maybe they have been doing all the work in training etc. and Noble has seen that Shaun still has things to work on? We really don't know.

That rumour has been totally put to bed by the chairman. Check further back on this thread. He clarifies the situation.

| In my opinion we have to try to understand the logic in what the coach is doing and frankly at times I can't. BN is a very conservative coach and that shows by the way Bradford played, big bashers not much flair. We have forwards who struggle to beat up the other team and our flair is pretty ordinary. Even last week how many trys scored from kicks.
There is a great danger that he will not acheive what I think he is trying to do by resting Ainscough and there is nothing worse for a young player to be dropped when playing well and scoring like he is. What happens when he has a really bad run of say 5 or 6 matches will he disappear like others. That dosen't happen to the very ordinary Aussies we have. What has Roberts done that is so good that he gets picked over Ainscough or Riddell or Bailey. These are very ordinary players who are not playing like they had to in Australia.
I watch NRL every week and they had to do lots more than they are doing for us. They are very ordinary and how Riddell can get into the team after last week just beats me. Nobles' logic seems to me to play the most experienced people irrespective of form and I think he is past his sell by date. We only put Ainsough and Tompkins into the side because of injury and I think BN when being interviewed has a lot of cheek to take the credit for playing "young players". It is not his style to do this and he should say so, Wigan is a hot bed of amateur and young RL and we should be able to nearly pick a local team without importing old ordinary Aussies. This has been said so many times before so no need to debate it.
I just hope by his selection policy of if you are an old ordinary Aussie you get picked before a young up and coming Wigan lad that these lads do not leave, we have lost too many good players before.
Let us hope today that the team turns up like last week and not as they have done in so many matches this season e.g. Catalans, Cas, wakefield at home etc.

I keep hearing this, but, to be honest, I can't think of many that I'd want to see at Wigan now.

Yep, what's in the past, leave it all there!! Past chairman and all that, current Chairman is doing a great job with the club.
Noble is doing an excellent job with Ainsy, people who don't know him you can't comment on 'If he's treated like this for the rest of the season he'll leave' For the people that know him and talk to the guy, you all know he's proud to wear a Cherry and White shirt whether it be a 1st team or reserve shirt!
People who say - he should be playing nearly every game, he's starting his Super League career! you won't go and throw a baby in the deep end of a pool, you start them off at the other end and slowly work them down! Like I've said in the past, like Leeds did with Ryan Hall and Lee Smith!! Slowly developed their careers, and it's worked.
We have an excellent future ahead of us, when you watch the reserves and that, we'll have a cup/title under our belt in no time, possibly even this year in the CC!!

| From what I saw last night of Shaun...he may very well have cost us the game today with Wakey's kicking game peppering him the whole day. He really needs to work on his taking the high ball/crossfield kick as yesterday he was found wanting a number of times. His defence is also another issue he needs to work on. Im perfectly happy with him not playing today.
