Don't do that. People need a Wiganer as a scapegoat, instead of pointing the finger at the inept, clueless and uninspiring coach

That's an interesting theory. The stats show how many kick returns the players made. Goulding made 1! He gained 8 metres from it.

Quote: brearley84 "He also left his spot for the first try, leaving Shenton with too much ground to make up. But it was his debut so not to be too harsh on him.'"

Goulding had just made a very good tackle on Fien so he was at marker. Where else was he supposed to be? The defensive line should accomodate but Shenton wasn't paying any attention to his man and could have prevented the try very easily.

Not in-field when he's a winger and there is a serious threat to the line. But so far as I could see that was his only error in judgement and he did well for his debut.

How's it an error in judgement? If he hadn't made that tackle there and then they would have scored nearer the posts, shenton should of covered it seeing that goulding was at marker

So he should have let the player score the try just so he could have been in position for the next play? Riiiiight.

Having played the game on the wing, if you can make the tackle make it.
If you are then first or second marker then it's up to your colleagues to adjust their line and provide sufficient cover.

Unless your Saintsfan!
They're so used to watching Meli & gardner do ball all they'd have told Goulding to stay on the touchline and let em score the play before (It was actually Brown's error as he came up to quick and got squared up on the play before to let NZ get on the outside, He did it about 4 times 1st half!).

I say dear fellow, even though I have just gotten the better of you in our recent confrontation.....would you please mind awfully waiting whilst I rush back into my position of one's wing?

My point was about him being in-field in the first place when he is supposed to be covering the wing. Sure, Shenton should have covered given that Goulding went in field. But he made the decision to go in field instead of leaving it to the players already there, so disrupting the defensive structure when the Kiwis were very close to the line.

You are being partisan but this isn't Wigan we're talking about; it's England. He wasn't the only one to make a poor judgement or indeed make a mistake. But he wasn't perfect either. Other than that one decision he had a good debut. But please do ignore my previous sentence because people on here do keep ignoring it!

If he hadn't have made the tackle infield, odds are the kiwi's would have scored.

Would you rather he just stood purely on the wing and said "Meh, that's infield, not my problem"?

Maybe he should have made the decision to go inside in the 2nd half when Griffin and Westwood decided to have a game of pat-a-cake...!!!

The Kiwis had made a clean break through the line so there was no defensive structure to disrupt. Goulding had no choice but to chase back and make the tackle. It's called covering in case you didn't know and it's precisely what the England defense didn't do on the next tackle while Goulding was at marker, which led to the overlap and the eventual try in the corner

Nobody is being partisan here. You are just wrong about this incident. The bigger issue with this England side is the lack of organisation and structure in attack, which is by far my biggest concern

You're wasting your time waiting for that to be admitted there I'm afraid.

Haha clueless saints fans icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

What the f*ck is Goulding supposed to do? Stay in position and watch them run in for the first try? d040.gif If theres anyone to blame for that try, then its those behind for lack of communication... when a winger commits himself to making a tackle then the line has to shift. They failed to do so.

To be fair they did shift. There were enough people there to make the tackle, its just Shenton and Brown cant defend which is why Saints and Giants fans are jumping on Gouldings back looking for someone else to blame.
