Of all the replays I’ve watched, the best bit is Makinson running up to Partington after the video ref gives the try. It’s quality. A golden boot to a nobody.

I'd have Makinson here in a heartbeat, 20+ tries a year guaranteed, it must be so frustrating playing for a barge it up the middle mob like Saints

I worry about people who join forums and know sweet FA about the topic. But if you stay round long enough and get that big chip off your shoulder then you might learn something. If you want a good starting point have a look at the history books that cover rugby league, there you will regularly see the name of the greatest rugby team in history, I'll give you a tip it is not Saints. By the way, I would have been worried about Makinson running up to me given his past form.

| What a great game. Two brilliant team performances in different ways.
You have to take off your hat to the conditioning of the Wigan players. To be on the back foot like that for essentially the entire game without creaking is frankly ridiculous.

Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.:Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG |

| Quote: Egg Chasing "Are you suggesting it was a poor game?
I'd say errors were pretty minimal from both sides from memory, and any form of attack was just shut out by quality defence.
I'd watch a game like that 50 times before I would watch a 30 point rout or a game where sides forget to tackle.'"
It was a great game and all 34 players should be proud of providing such a game of intensity.
Many, many years back, think it was a Lancs Cup Final derby game no tries scored (5-4 Wigan) that was one of the best games ever, the Grand Final at the weekend was very similar.

| In my 39 years of supporting this club I'm thinking back to when I saw a more intense game than that one, bearing in mind the prize awaiting the eventual winners
The only one I can really compare that to was our WCC game vs Manly in 87.
I'm still gutted but now going through the 'acceptance' stage in the grieving process. I was to talking to someone yesterday and I said that part of me would have taken this defeat easier had we lost something like 18-6. I think the whole roller-coaster ride did it for me (chasing the game, taking the lead, late penalty equaliser, arm wrestle for territory for a drop goal, our last minute penalty to win it, despair with the miss and not making it dead, Saints drop goal hitting the post after the hooter, then that try.....

I'm not even close to acceptance
That defeat will hurt for a long time. From a fans perspective each and every time Saints are talked about they'll be referred to as back-to-back champions. Every time Welsby plays Sky will mention his try ad infinitum. The try itself will be shown for years to come.
As much as we hurt though, I imagine the players will be 10x worse. I said on another post that our motivation for the season ahead is done. Think Liverpool last season, having been so close the year before. Think Bradford in 2003. They were robbed the year before and went on to win the treble (not saying we will win the treble but the principle is the same) the year after. If wanting to right that wrong doesn't make each and every player want to better themselves and take it out next season then they're in the wrong job.

Its not as frustrating as being beaten by a team that just barges up the middle...

| We've come a long way since the start of this season a lot of people on here thought we were miles off saints standards but here we are having narrowly beat them to win L.L.S and getting pipped in a nailbiter final.add to that they've given contract extensions to Amor and L.M.S and possibly Roby while our young guns have another years experience under their belts and I think it beginning to look a lot rosier for next season
