Yes, have a quick look at the post 3 above yours.
Widnes played well for them, but it was Wane's decision that settled the game.

| Just been listening to S Wane on the radio. He says the team he put out he was 100% sure it was good enough to beat Widnes. He is gutted and won't sleep tonight. He said Wigan didn't play well enough they should have won. I think that he greatly uner-estimated Widnes.

For me some understandable nerves, but promising going forward. Looked weak in defence, due to inexperience. They probably could have used some stronger leadership.

I agree he underestimated Widnes and the team was weakened too much but, TBF, if Charnley had put that penalty over we [iwould[/i have won and we'd all have been discussing the lucky escape. SW wasn't [ithat[/i far off in his assessment. In the end, a highly-motivated Widnes side sneaked a 1-point win over a very disrupted team filled with youngsters, with a drop goal.
We've found out Matty Russell is going to be very handy for when, as many want, Tomkins goes to 6; we've found out that Mellor needs more first team game time if we want him to step up when Finch leaves. We've found out that five simultaneous changes to introduce youngsters is pretty much suicidal.

A highly motivated Widnes team missing the top try scorer, both first choice half backs, their two starting props and a smattering of first team players.

True enough (even if 'top try scorer' is only relative ), but still a win by a point - and could still have been a loss by a point if Charnley had put the penalty over.

Widnes still have some pretty good players who one of these days are gonna click together and put in a good performance... I'd hate to see that happen against an understrength Wigan side.'"
Looks like my fears became true!.....
Beaten by the better team on the day, and Widnes deserve credit for managing to come back from 12 points down to get level at half time to then come back from an 18 point deficit to win in the second half.. It's disappointing that that the players let the lead slip like that.
And all those people who are deciding that it doesn't matter that we lost if it means young players are being challenged.... what will your opinions be if come the end of the season we miss out on the top of the league by one point? something which could cost us a big advantage come play off time?...

But all this talk of disrespecting is giving Wigan an excuse they don't deserve. Widnes outplayed you.

I agree with you there. The game was close enough to show that it was a pretty even contest - regardless of the two leads Widnes fought back/Wigan threw away* (*delete as applicable).

| Widnes were the better team but the game was offered them by a ludicous squad selection by Shaun Wane.
The other equally baffling decision was to allow Stefan Marsh to play for Widnes. He ran Hughes ragged down their right sided attack. As if this couldn't have been anticipated. Who on earth thinks that Hughes, a back row forward, would ever cope with Marsh's pace.

| This is the second screw up by Wane this season, a team not ready for Huddersfield and this really is a mistake to rank right up there with the best.
Did he not think what the ex Wigan connection people would think this morning, OK leave a couple out which was known to be Pat and Tommy but then to leave out Sam and Lockers is really saying to Widnes "you are no good and we can take you anytime" how would anyone react if they were treated with such contempt and arrogance?
When you hear that Stefan Marsh is sounding like a world beater it really is time to be a bit concerned, so well done Widnes and we got what we deserved. As said already, blooding young players is OK but what will this have done to their confidence, getting beat up by a team who have not looked like winning and if I am correct lost their last 7 matches last year and their first 5 this season.
He could have left out 2 today and 2 next week against London but to leave out 4 of your very best and most experienced players was madness and now of course he will have to play all 4 next week if fit, whereas spelling them in a logical manner would be perhaps OK. It is also not fair on the fans who pay to see the best team possible not some experiment, he has already done this in practice matches and hasn't learnt any lessons.
Let us hope he doesn't mouth off again about I will make the players suffer in training etc, accept your mistakes and admit you made a massive one today and learn from it, if not accept the consequences as anybody in any occupation who made a mistake like this would have to do.

I can't help but think he will leave players out next week too. Like you I just didn't understand the need to rest all those players in one go. With London coming up next week there would have been chance to give 2 players a rest in either game and have the best of both worlds.

This thought has crossed my mind as well. If he doesn't then it will be a tacit admission that he was wrong this week.
