but he didnt come out and say he'd been looking, it was the guys agent who was blatantly touting for an NRL job for his client.
IL can't go to them and say, "pssssttt...do you want the job? If you don't will you promise not to tell anyone we asked? OK, thanks!"
No agent in there right mind is going to miss out on that PR, especially as his contract with NZ is up for renewal, which has probably added a few $$$ onto his new contract with them after the McLennan fiasco.

Of course the St Helens chairman would never do anything to trouble the reputation of his club...

| Quote: Cruncher "The uncertainty on this thread alone - about whether Wigan offered Kearney a deal or were merely sounding him out - proves that it's speculation.
Or are you another one of these people who doesn't believe the chairman should sound coaches and players out for possible future positions in case the news is leaked? If so, no doubt you'd also be one to complain when we suddenly can't sign anyone because all the deals have already been done by other clubs.'"
Its nothing to do with that.
IL stated in an interview, he wanted Noble here for 2010 but we find out prior to the interview that he was offering the job around.
Why doesn't he just tell the truth instead of the situation we now find ourselves in, which, is once again, embarrasing.
As for signings, lets be realistic, IL isnt going to sign anyone significant, he has his ideas and that is the end of it.

And you quite clearly have yours, and that also appears to be the end of it.

Well dismissing his post by picking up on the signings comment allows you to ignore the rest if it I suppose. So what I'd like to know is why you do not see anything wrong with this point made by AJ which is the crux of the matter:
"IL stated in an interview, he wanted Noble here for 2010 but we find out prior to the interview that he was offering the job around."

I can’t help but feel you are making this into a much, much larger deal than it has to be and most of it still stems from the whole Higham saga.
So what if IL told a lie to the press big deal?? As long as he was straight with BN that is all that matters imo as it’s BN job and future that’s up in the air. I
No one knows if he was or he wasn’t and all this IL bashing at every turn without knowing all the facts of what is going on behind the scenes is laughable and pointless.
IL is the chairman of Wigan RL. He’s a local lad and most importantly a fan who wants what is best for this club.
So how about a novel idea for some Wigan fans instead of slagging him off at every turn over the most trivial matters like ‘I don’t like IL because he told me a lie once’ how about we actually support him???
Now that would be a turn of events wouldn’t it.

You just don't get the implication of this do you?
Had Mo been found out like this the RLFANS server would have crashed under the strain of people rushing on here to say we could never believe anything our chairman said again because he had been caught out lying.
You seem to be happy with a situation where what the chairman says bares no relation to reality.
What is the point in listening to anything he says? He has been on here to rubbish the rumour that Ainscough can't play due to salary cap constraints and even quoted one of my posts to do so. Do we believe that?
That is why it's a big deal. And no it doesn't stem from the Higham saga but I am sure you can see the parallels in that the player was told to play for a contract and Noble has been told to get results for a contract and while at the same time replacements were looked for.

It's not pointless for the above reasons. It's already been said but if he was straight with BN and BN already knew he was leaving then why on earth give the impression to the world he was actually going to be here in 2010? That is what is pointless and serves no sensible purpose.

When IL came here it was the new broom to sweep away the failings of the old regime and the way they went about things.
I do not consider what went on with Higham and now seems to have gone on with Noble any better and actually worse than the way they conducted matters. You can ignore this if you want.
I also have no idea if you were a big critic of Mo but for those who were who now think IL can do no wrong, well I just think its hypocritical of them to ignore it when mistakes are made. It is not a matter of being pro or anti IL but judging each issue as they come. He isn't infallible and when he gets things right you will see me say so and so when I think he has got things wrong I will say so then as well. I think he's got this one wrong.

He wouldn't be the first person in sport to talk crap to the press. Sorry pal, I just can't get excited about it.

Didn't Lenagan qualify it stating it was dependent on results.
If results are as poor as now for the rest of the season, what would you say if by the end of the season Noble goes and Lenagan hadn't sounded anyone out? I've got a very good idea.
Saying he wants Noble to be coach next season - depending on results, is not incompatible with sounding out possible replacements should those results still be poor.
It's really not that difficult to understand.
Working in IT Dave you should understand the need for a risk assessment, and more importantly a plan to mitigate potential risks.

| I really don't understand why some people are getting themselves so worked up over this.
It is an everyday occurance for a manager/chairman to say one thing to the press and then something else happens.
Most of the time that's because the ink isn't dry on a contract and things are in very early stages, where a NUMBER of options are being investigated. If you leak to early then your/their position may be compromised.
e.g Man Utd manager saying 'I wouldn't sell Real Madrid a virus' - and look what happens, they sell Ronaldo for £80M. Do you think they would have got £80m if they'd have said 'yeah Ronaldo want's to go and we know we can't keep him so they can have him for a few bob'?
All clubs have to keep a number of irons in the fire until they get a confirmed signature, otherwise we are left with the same situation where Mo gets strung along by Gasnier then ends stuffed and has to panic and sign Vailiki.
IL has simply enquired about a NUMBER of options and has been told one of them isn't available. He's probably (but then we don't anything for sure) told Noble that he's looking at options, and the job may even still be Nobles if he gets us to a final? If not then IL has some options to move us forward.
He may well have told Noble that he's no chance of getting a renewal, but this is the PR line until a firm decision is made on replacement.
Just the same as a Salford will contine to say that Myler is on contract for another year and they want him to stay, but they are obviously listening to offers of hard cash from other clubs, and will ultimately make a decision on whether to take the cash or hold onto the player.
As fans, we always want to know everything straight away, as the person running the club it's not always best to show all your cards straight away.
