At least it's not in Millwall.'"

Just because a London "home" game has not been announced doesn't mean that it is not being planned.
Every year the benefits of having a season ticket get eroded. This year I gained no financial benefit, because of work commitments, and next season I probably will not bother. Our home gates are going down so I cannot for the life of me see the benefit for the club of reducing the number of games that we can go to. If we had held this game in Japan , for example, as part of an attempt to expand the game I could understand but RL in Australia doesn't need it. Perhaps if two big Australian teams came and played in London, like the NFL do, we could kick start interest down there.

What's the betting season tickets will still get a 10-20% hike.
Why does it have to be a regular season game? We've already got the joke of the club challenge (and is that happening next year or are we just assuming 'Ull & us won't be in it?). Building links & promotion is all well & good (albeit the colonials won't pay 5 seconds of interest to it, I'll wager), but why is it a home game for either side at all?
If Red Hall are trying to out-do Fifa & "promote" the game, then take it to a town on the UAE border & broadcast it to the sporting bigots that ban the game for not being Union.

I got the impression that this has been driven by the Illawarra local authority and probably Wigan, rather than anything the RFL have come up with.

Not very well thought out this . If they had played the games two weeks earlier we could all have stopped over after the World Cup Final .

To promote tourism in New South Wales of course!

From the official statement on the club web sitehttp://www.wiganwarriors.com/news/2017-07-26-wigan-head-to-nsw#p4YpFfuBi5Uexclu.99rl

As far as what Wigan expect to get out of it, it's Millwall MkII.

Wigan Warriors Chairman, Ian Lenagan, commented:

“This announcement is one of the most innovative and exciting in the history of Wigan Rugby League Club. Director, Kris Radlinski, together with Commercial Sales Manager, Dan Burton, has been in negotiations with key stakeholders both in Australia and the UK over the last 12 months, delicately pulling together this complex agreement.

“The opportunities to create new and increased core business from sponsorships and partnerships together with Wigan brand development, the increased profile with NRL players and opportunity for our fans makes this the biggest single commercial contract in the history of the Club.

“The Wigan fans are famed for their loyal support as shown when a huge army of supporters travelled to Sydney for the World Club Challenge game with Sydney Roosters in 2014. We firmly believe that the Wigan and Hull fans will be as excited about this venture as we are and we have announced early to allow fans the chance to plan their trip to Australia and, at the same time, to provide clarity on the number of home games for the 2018 season before Season Ticket packages are launched later this year.”

Why not have Hull's home fixture with Wigan the week after - or is it just our club that seems to continually want to shoot itself in the foot, make the competition harder for themselves, or generally treat their fans with disdain?

I have no objections to Wigan playing Hull in a SL fixture halfway across the world, but why not in lieu of the Newcastle weekend?

Quote: DGM "I put this almost word for word on the Hull board.

I'd love to know Rhinoshaund's method on booking a trip, 6 months to do some Googling & research is plenty of time, and stick a chunk on the credit card if needs be. I can't go to see FC play as I'm going to the WC in November. We're doing Melbourne, Auckland, Cairns & Brisbane over three weeks - all flights, both longhaul and internal, plus staying in AirBnb's as a party of four, is costing us c£1,500 each. If fans really wanted to, I'm sure they could manage to squirrel away £250 a month for what is a trip of a lifetime.'"

My method on booking a trip includes a missus and 2 kids. £6000? Yeah, ill just stick a chunk on the credit card or squirrel away £250 a month. d040.gif

I've no issue with it. I do think the club needs to make sure they do something to compensate season ticket holders for next year by either knocking the price off the ticket or offering something if a similar value (I doubt they'll offer free travel like they did for Millwall..ha).

I would presume they're being paid handsomely to go over by the NSW government. If they're saying they expect 5,000 to travel and millions put in to the economy then much like how the RFL are given funding to take Magic to cities by their local councils, we should also be looking at a tidy sum.
