| Quote: Geoff "He did well...at the risk of upsetting the pro-Gelling crowd, he already looks better, even on debut.'"
I thought Gelling was one of Wigans top three players today. If he had made the mistake that Thornley made in the first half when he got tackled into touch instead of stepping inside, the Wigan fans would have been on his back.
Thornley did o.k today and took his tries well.
I was very impressed with Matty Smith when he came on, he certainly got Wigan moving.

Didnt.bomb any today?
I wouldnt go as far as rogues saying.he was in the top 3 but some of the criticism is unbelievable
The pass from carmont (a tricky flick pass so im not criticisning george too much) was 5 yards behind.gelling!
5 mins later and carmont is 2 on 1 with mathrrs. doesnt pass and theres loads blaming gelling!!!!!
Made fantastic yards out of defence as did thornley.

| don't we have to register players for the second stage of the competition prior to the quarter finals??
don't think the issue of being "cup tied" will matter it is just the issue if we registered him in the second round prior to the quarters...
how did the 6/7 combo go today anyone who went?? was at a family birthday so couldn't go and radio commentary was well...poor

The one that went behind him was totally Carmonts fault although like you say a difficult piece of skill to pull off.
As for the other I thought that was a prime example of Gellings positional struggles as a winger. He should be looking to make Carmont's Job as easy as possible by getting close to him in support but rather then do that he seemed to veer away towards the touchline putting a lot of space between him and Carmont. The ball still should have been attempted by Carmont but I can understand why he held on in the end.
Its understandable though as he ain't a winger. He does however look a good prospect and people criticising him won't do him any good. He does more good then bad things and he'll continue to improve, especially if he ever gets to play in his own position.

| A lot of the Gelling criticisms does remind me of Pat Richards first season (also out of position).

Unbelievable!
They probably got that impression when he went down with cramp though. I bet he hasn't had that once in his time in Union.
He'll soon get used to playing a proper game again.

| probably never broke sweat in Yawnion and suffered from frostbite and hyperthermia from standing around in the backline.

I think he probably should have used that frostbite excuse for all the times he knocked on playing for Leeds - He had the pace and obvious ability but just couldn't put it to use in the 15 man code.
Nice to see him getting a good crack in proper rugby and doing well.
