| Oldham hands down, either as a player or a spectator it's freezing. I swear it's got it's own micro-climate, it takes cold to a new, lower degree in my experience.

| Sat 10th Jan 1987, Burnden Park, Bolton, John Player Trophy Final v Warrington, absolutely bl**dy freezing, if it hadn't been for the under soil heating the game wouldn't have been played.

| Quote Bilko="Bilko"Yeah thats right. Boxing Day 1993 - You can see it on yoo tube if you search that on there! Dunno if someone lost their job though.
A December 8th home match with Hull in 1985 had been postponed due to us playing in the John Player Quarter Finals and Maurice decided he'd cash in over christmas and re-arrange the match on a blank Sunday 29th December nipped in between the traditional Boxing Day v Saints and NY Day v Wire games.
Central Park had been starved of action in the 7 weeks prior to Christmas with only Mansfield visiting for a JPS tie (on Nov 24th) so it was a good idea by Maurice. A bumper crowd would have packed in, but in the end he was left "furiois" Although the Saints home tie on Boxing Day went ahead, the club needed to switch on the newly installed £80,000 pitch heating system for the first time. Suffice to say it failed with Maurice left with huge egg on his face after making boasts about this new system.
The match was called off and eventually played on a Sunday afternoon in March, 24 hours after Great Britain had played France at Central Park.'"
I seem the recall they made the error of thinking the heating could thaw the pitch out whereas it can only prevent the ground from freezing by being switched on in advance.

You're right, it was bloody cold that day. The coldest two grounds I've ever been to have to be Odsal and the Watersheddings. Rogues may remember this one though. It would be Boxing Day on either 1966 or 1967. Wire v Widnes was called off and my friend's Dad took us to KR to watch Saints v Wigan. The pitch had been covered in straw and it was piled up around the touchlines. It was a fantastic first half and played at a hell of a pace, but as my friend and I were small boys we were at the front and you could hear the studs on the frozen ground. As a result the ref abandoned the game at HT. It was desperately cold that day, and on reflection they should never have started.

| Quote Rogues Gallery="Rogues Gallery"Watersheddings Oldham. The coldest I have ever known.
The day Henry Paul and a couple of other players were treated for hypothermia. I think it was a Regal Trophy / JPS round.'"
Watersheddings Oldham was the coldest I have ever been outdoors in this country. Wire were playing and it was December, it was a night match. I don't know the score because I think I too was in the early stages of hypothermia. We arrived 90 minutes before kick off so all in all we were stood for over 3 hours in the coldest weather I can ever recall. Walking back to the Car I was swaying as if I had too many beers and my coordination was going.

Thirded over here. Barely go to the Reebok these days and go to away games instead. Bobbins matchday experience compared to dear old Burnden (though we'd be a lower League One club now had we stayed there).

ahmen to that .........Saddleworth away as a player in Jauary mid 90's.....
the ground was wet and soggy but a crisp layer of ice from freshly fallen hailstones meant the cold hit you first when you hit the ground....
then a fresh hailstorm half way through the game had grown men dithering it was an awful but amazing experience.
At full time blokes were sprinting to the changing rooms....Saddleworth had a big bath back then and our number 8 was just sat there in the bath couldnt speak and was trying to drink a steaming hot cup of tea with hands shaking like he had advanced parkinsons.......
