I think it's probably to do with the (alleged) spat he had with Tony Smith, Banana working as close as he did with TS would have probably been aware. In short a possible clash of personalities.
Atkins was nowhere near his Wire form and Shenton is vastly overrated, tbf we aren't much cop anywhere in the backs.
Sam's game doesn't translate to international, Robinson ? Brown is not international standard, Widdop isn't even a starting player in his club side. We are woeful

Gleesons off field behaviour and influence cost him a place on the England team. His form certainly warranted being picked but obviously this wasnt enough.

This is so true and I was only saying as much yesterday. England RU got absolutely battered yesterday at home against New Zealand, as they often do against Southern hemisphere teams, but compare this with the reaction when England RL lose against Australia or New Zealand. If England RU beat Scotland, Samoa and the like they are great results, where as if England RL beat Papua New Guinea or France it is like these results dont matter and they are still seen as a negative. It is total hypocracy.
If England RU played New Zealand and Australia year on year in a tri or 4 Nations like England RL do then they would fare no better but for some reason that is okay in RU.
