| Quote: Jimmy Birts Lives On "Mate, the UK Ultras scene is all about trying to create some colour and passion on the terraces. Nothing at all to do with violence. Check out Stanley Ultras (Accy Stanley), Jorvik Reds (York City) and what's going on with this scene at places like Crystal Palace and Oxford United for example. It looks great and all adds to the experience on matchday.
It doesn't matter what we use as a name. Irregulars, Brigantes, Ultras. A group of fans want to replicate at Wigan what is going on at some of the clubs mentioned above. That's it.'"
There is talk of the Red Ultras making a come back at Aberdeen too, they recently launched a campaign for support. I used to talk to some of the guys involved and they helped us out with a few things when we were going. One of them even got me an invite on to the Curva Sud with the Brigate Rossonere for the Milan derby in 2005. Great guys.

That's good to hear. They did 10 good years and put on some crackin displays. Best in Britain by a mile I'd say at the time.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-

| Forget what the Ultras scene is like anywhere else, just get down to a meeting and meet the people who organise the flags. Most of them couldn't punch their way out of a paper bag nevermind fight a rugby match
I was never fan of the term 'ultra' or 'irregular' because of the connections people make with those names but the people who organise it can call themselves what they like. I think something more Wigan related would be better though. Also it's better to be original than take another name.
I urge you guys not to be discourage by anything said! Don't stop it at home games, it's too good an idea for the whole south stand to not buy into it.
We should definantly make a mess with the confetti and bog roll at wire though!

Quality, not saying there is anything wrong with Irregulars but it is rather scouse..... hmmmm....
Already been a banner made with irregulars on but it still adds colour in the ground so nothing wrong with that....
In terms of a name I think the rest of the fans would really buy into something Wigan related, this is the way it works. If the ultras tag is left alone and the name is just something everyone will recognise then the opportunity to get new people in will grow faster and faster.
MattyB said about those two old people dancing to the tune! I love that.... if they knew it was you guys who made that happen and then heard your Wigan related name then they would be all for the flags etc.
As an example of the sort of blokes these guys are, look at Jimmy Birts responce all through this thread guys! Open to anything people have to say! Not a 17 year old violent chav who has had his flags taken from him. These are proper rugby league fans trying to make something happen! Lets buy into it!

The flags are great, but when you have a logo with a skull in your sig, is it really that hard to see why it gives the impression that you're trying to be some half-ars*d firm?
I love all the flags (even as a Saints fan) but calling yourself "ultras" is lame and carries obvious and needless connotations.

| The only thing I would say against the name is "Ultra what?"
What exactly are you "Ultra" about?

| Quote: MattyB "On a slight change of discussion, as I was heading down the steps after the hooter (to the tune of 'Long after tonight is all over'), it was amazing to see groups of older supporters literally dancing on the terraces and singing the words. One couple I saw (man & wife I assume, in their late 50's) were holding hands, dancing and belting out the words...they were in a world of their own to it. The joy on their faces alone made it so worth while!!!'"
It was awesome! I hope we have it at every game!!

| St George fans look quality especially at away games. Clearly everyone buys into the idea and everyone takes their own banners. Hopefully we will see banners and flags return to the south stand when people start to take their own. Back in 2000 loads of kids (inlcuding myself) used to take flags but it died out a bit.
