| Quote: Conman "Charnley has pace (alot of it) IMO Foster hasn't.'"
Yes he has.
Quote: Conman "Strong in the tackle, I would trust Charnley one on one.'"
Works hard in defence but due to his size can find it tough near the tryline.
Quote: Conman "Comes in for work, and makes decent metres forward. '"
Foster is one of our most hardworking players. He is all over the place. But if you're talking kick returns, he still needs strength. He isn't as big as Charnley. However, no-one could doubt Foster's willingness to come inside for work and he is not afraid to tackle.
Quote: Conman "Again IMO Foster has only got the goal kicking on Charnley and Josh is pretty decent at that!'"
Clearly not. It's just that you haven't watched Foster enough to know what you are talking about. Foster is all that you say Charnley is but with superb kicking skills on top.

| If Charnley had Foster's kicking ability, who would be better?

| Charnley has everything Foster has but he seems a little bit faster and has size and power, meaning he's a bigger threat in attack and can put in some big tackles in defence. Goalkicking is irrelevant in the comparison. For me, Charnley is the better player.

| I thought Charnley was already a good kicker anyway? If he has a full pre-season like Pat did focusing on goal kicking, I'm sure he would be as good!

So how do you explain Charnleys stats being better than Fosters.
Charnleys percentage success kicking is also better than Fosters.

| Charnley is the better player. It's just fans will always argue and back their own players.

I've already said about (a) Foster's build being relatively slight, and (b) the difference in how coaches use their players (wingers included).
Quote: Rogues Gallery "Charnleys percentage success kicking is also better than Fosters.
That I doubt.

Not at all. If we were to compare hookers then I'd say Roby is the best hooker in Superleague but Moore is way down the list. Moore has turned into a pretty effective second rower, which is how Simmons is using him. Or would do, if he hadn't been dropped! I'm realistic about Saints players and aside from his size, which limits him in both attack (kick returns when tackled) and defence (goal line, due to lack of strength), I honestly believe that Foster is more than just an 'average winger' as people on here are suggesting. I don't believe he is international standard but he might turn out to be over time.
Oh, and his kicking isn't just limited to goals. He is doing some fantastic kick offs too.

| I think that you're missing the point.
What the majority of are saying is that Wigan do not need Foster, as we have two better wingers in Richards and Charnley in the team now.
There aren't many who say that Foster is a poor player, I for one was championing him three years ago (although that was at centre).

| No team with Pat Richards would want Foster for that position, its madness! If you really want to swap though ....

| Compare Foster to Charnley and theres only one winner. Bigger, faster, stronger & better. Why buy a Ford focus when theres a Hummer sat on the drive?

Of course not. But I was talking about the relative strengths and weaknesses of Charnley and Foster, not Pat Richards and Foster because I made it clear that I thought comparing Richards and Foster was ludicrous. They're at opposite ends of their careers, as I said. So my point was about Charnley and Foster.
