Quote: shambawangy "Something earlier in the game perhaps, we can only speculate

Accident or not its a sending off with probably a ban to follow for a terrible attempt at a 'tackle''"

It wasn't a tackle, he was striking at the ball and got it wrong, I think a yellow would have been fair.
Don't let the fact he was knocked out cloud your judgement.

Given Tomkins was in cloud cuckoo land I fail to see how he would have been in control of the ball to ground it.
No try, and a yellow for me.

It can't have been no try because if he didn't ground it (even though he did - control is irrelevant), it would've been a penalty try for the offence by Raynor in the act of scoring.

There looked to be downward pressure to me... Can you comment on that fact?

Quote: WigansForeignLegion "You know him, I don't, happy to take your word for that. However, that was a serious contact to the nose/chops with a swinging arm, therefore a red card imo.

Re Ganson, he was viewing from behind so sought clarity as to what happened; rightly so.'"

I don't agree with your opinion, but I respect it.

Shame Ganson wasn't in charge of our game when Long was similarly taken out on the line. Knock on was given that night! Ah well, that's SL reffing for you.

Ganson had to ask where the contact was. Everything like this looks a lot worse in slow motion.
Raynor spent a lot of years at my club and I've met him a few times. Believe me, it would not have been intentional.'"

Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not. You can't expect to stay on the field when a swinging arm hits the head of a player and knocks him out. Players get sent off for less this was reckless play at the very least and that's a sending off offence.

Completely agree with that. You can't swing a clenched fist and make contact to the head with the force that Raynor did and stay on the pitch

Original Wire - You want to get off your high horse.

If this had happened to your beloved Briers you would be holding an entirely different opinion. You would be condemning Raynor just like the Wigan fans are.

That proves aboslutely nothing. I could just as easily say I know him too and can easily believe that it was deliberate.

All we've got is the evidence before us. Telepathy by Warrington fans, thickie Yaaarkshire outrage from Bradford fans and name-dropping by guys like you count for squat. What we saw was as close to a full on punch to the jaw as I've seen in modern times. Don't ask me, ask John Kear - who's hardly a Wigan fan. Even he was appalled.

And don't ask naive questions like why would he do this? How about taking out Wigan's most dangerous attacking player? It's not rocket science.

If you had bothered to read my posts, i have said the red card was right, and that he should be banned for it too..... what more would you like me to agree with you on?
