| The problem is that we yearn for the sort of professionalism we see from the likes of Channel 9 in Australia. But because of its low status, RL in Britain never seems to attract those kinds of guys. Instead we get monkeys who are happy to work for nuts as long as they think it makes them somebody - hence Eddie, Stevo, Dearden, Hunt, French, etc. I'd include Eddie Waring - he was a truly crap commentator - but at least he was a ground-breaker, doing a lot of work behind the scenes with almost no help from anybody.
The best commentator we ever had, IMO, was Clive Tildesley, who was a football man essentially, but covered RL very professionally and never had a parochial agenda.

| Quote: Jeff the God of Biscuits "Jack Dearden was awful, truly awful today. Who exactly is Scott Darooo? or Thomas Loolalie? I watched the game on a live feed, with the radio commentary over the top, what I was watching wasn't what was being commentated on, he had Dudson sin binned for back chat, had no idea it was a penalty try [Even though the conversion was taken in front of the sticks, with the try being scored out wide] and at one point said it had 'Been all Catalans for the last 15 minutes', when Wigan had just had 2 or 3 sets in the Catalans' half. Bring back Eddie and Stevo all is forgiven!'"
He said something along the lines of Catalans 'wilting' then said the exact same thing about us in the next set.
He said about us being dead on our feet about 25 mins into the game, when Kris Radlinski was saying that we were winning the energy battle.

Sebastian Ragu was the best one. He's a bit saucy, that lad!

| I was at the game and take it from me Wigan never looked like losing. They domiinated the game from start to finish. Our forwards outplayed theirs and only Dureau presented us with any problems. I wasn´t aware that Charnley had put his elbow in touch as I was too far away from the screen but apart from a bombed chance when Greenshields took the wrong option in the second half they rarely broke the line. No way could Catalans claim to be robbed. Another really professional performance from the boys and I´d reckon 2 to 3000 Wiganers there.

| Think Dearden needed a summariser. Hard to do three hours broadcasting on your own I reckon.

it did sound like that. he was relying on phil kinsella from the studio to back him up.
at the point where a wigan player did that 700th did a 'brilliant' run, i was about to turn the audio off and just watch the match in silence. doe he have more than a couple of adverbs and adjectives ???

I did the same as you, some of the worst commentating I have ever heard. And I must agree regarding the reports I have seen too, Wigan were in almost complete control of the match and even when Catalans had periods of pressure they were taken care of with ease. The two tries they did concede were a penalty try (fair enough) and one moment when Wigan were caught relatively off guard.
Sebastien Ragu though

The French commentary beat both Deardon's and Sky's hands down and I couldn't understand a word of it!

| I think he might also be on comission for the amount of times he uses the word "nailed"

| Ray French on Radio Manc Friday was even worse than Dearden yesterday. Far too many "err". In fact it seems everybody that played on Friday had the middle name "err".

| I agree with everything regarding Dearden's 'commentary' .. It was truly woeful. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. When Gelling scored, Jack was talking about the way the marketing manager had managed to get people in. '..and Gellings fallen over the line!' ..
Wait, what?
