I was thinking the same myself.
I do think however that all three need to be playing regular first team SL footy. Goulding already has this but Marsh and Charnley can't be stuck in the 21's and then be expected to slip into Carmonts shoes.
A season at Hull KR for Charnley would be perfect IMO.

| Quote: ABP' "George Carmont only tured pro at Newcastle at aged 24 and came to Wigan three/four years later. He barely had time to make a name for himself.
It's not just Wigan supporters who rate him. This is what Newcastle supporters did when they found out his contract wasn't being renewed for 2008https://t2.gstatic.com/images?q'"
Newcastle were not exactly cracking any pots though were they. Im not having a go at carmont i like him hes value for money at wigan and was at newcastle. I just want to see some outside backs come though for england and there being held back charnley showed at hull kr he has loads of potential and to me looked as good as anyone in centres in superleague already. Rugby League as a game going to go from bad to worse if we cant improve it international wise. It is no good saying next year all time we have got to do something now.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| One of our most consistant players. Pat being MOS and one of our best players has alot to do with this guy. Top player.
Charnley should go on loan to KR for a season, that would be great!
I think Carmont will be rested for quite a few games next season, we will probably see a few new faces in his regular centre spot.

I totally agree with you when wanting to promote youngsters but we must look at the current situation. Carmont has had another impressive year in a Championship winning side whilst partnering the competitions top try scorer and Man of Steel. Plus, he's only signed one more year which is expected to be his last and this will allow us bring through a replacement.
Would you honestly not resign Carmont and replace him directly with Charnley/Marsh?

| Carmont has had it relatively easy for a RL player, there are countless player who have plenty of miles on the clock by the time he turned pro.. I don't blame Wigan for only giving him a year but I'd be surprised if he isn't in SL beyond that.

Agreed.
For me the most likely candidate is Daz Goulding. He had an excellent game against Hull FC (home) at centre & didn't look out of place at all. I would like to see him get a few more games at centre this year.
Josh Charnley and Stefan Marsh need much more game time. We need that strength in depth for certain, but a loan to a SL club with a 24-hour recall would be perfect. From what I've been told though, Marsh is seen more of a fullback and Charnley is seen as more of a winger.
Push comes to shove, age is just a number, we could just re-sign Carmont for another year after 2011.

In George and Gleeson Wigan must have the best centre combination in the SL - which is one of the reasons our wingers scored so many tries last season ( I know a lot came through Sam and Lockers too).
With our improved halves and pack things should be even better next season!'"
Bridge and King is probably the best combination. Been a great signing Carmont. As with most other positions at the club, you have a youngster ready to come through when he departs.

I thought Wire played Atkins ahead of Bridge?

No. When Bridge was fit they interchanged King and Atkins on the left. Bridge has covered both halfback positions and loose forward as well.

I have to admit I'm not a great fan of sending players out on loan and then bringing them back for one or two games due to injury. I'd rather see them settled at one club for the full season.
For that reason I hope Pryce is resigned as cover rather than calling guys like Charnley back. IMO with the loss of Phelps & Ainscough plus Pats injury means we are a little short on wing cover.

| We start next season without Pat, Roberts could go full back with Sam at 6.
This may well give us Goulding on the right wing and either Charnley or Marsh left wing.
Goulding has to be favourite as Carmont's replacement. He's a centre anyway and has had a very good season playing almost all year. I'm sure he will fill the left centre spot without any difficulty following his good run in the first team.
Interesting that there's no mention of a further year's option after 2011 for George.
I'm sure MM will manage that situation very well.

That makes no financial sense at all. Why pay Pryce a full year's salary, however small, to play in the reserves, when we can have cover available at no cost to us other than the odd game Charnley or Marsh might play?

Has to be Gleeson and Carmont, look at the tries scored, setup and saved. A large part of the championship winning team.

Bridge is better than Gleeson and King better than Carmont, it's that simple. Wigan are by far the best team in the league and will be even stronger next year with your new additions. I just feel Warrington are stronger in that area. Wigan have great leaders and outstanding talent all across the board. In my eyes Sam Tomkins is the best player in the league and you have a core of outstanding young talent with more coming through the system.
