Aye, when I was 13 Wigan were good though

Was thinking the same myself the other day. There is no-one in this league that stands out, all players of the same ability...look at the past 3 MOS winners: Wellens, Roby and Graham, hardly players who set the world on fire IMO and when you compare them to players in the NRL like Inglis, Folau, Lockyer, Thurston, Slater, Barrett, Cameron Smith...the list is endless and no one in SL can even be compared to these men.

No one in SL is standing out this year either for MOS and its not making entertaining Rugby for neutrals...I know quite alot of people who used to be mad on rugby league, for other clubs aswell a few years ago, but now i would be surprised if they could name a SL player. Its just not appealing anymore IMO unless your a die hard.

All very good points. I've only been watching RL for a relatively short time, but I was lucky enough to see some tremendous players like Faz, Rads, Dallas and Lam before they retired, and there really don't seem to be any players of that class around at the moment.

In the early nineties when Wigan, St Helens, Leeds, Widnes and Castleford were prob the main teams the rest were pants. All the above clubs had great support, were houshold names and when they played each other you knew it was going to be a cracker. The same could be said until 4 years ago Bradford v St Helens would be mouthwatering, nowadays I couldn't care less. Its a shame.

Wigan had good Aussies and Kiwis playing for us like Kenny,Bell, Tuigamala, Botica, top quality british players like Skerrett, Gregory, Hanley and good young players brought through like Betts, Clarke, Dermott.

The reason the like of Betts, Clarke and Edwards developed into the players that they did was due to being surrounded by class players. Nowadays the squads are dilluted will mediocracy and there is a fine line between top draw players and crap players. E.g. Any player can play in any position really plus average players are our best players like Westwood, Gardner, Wilkin, O'Loughlin (Although it pains me to say he is average compared to the aussies, he is superb in defence)

If we are to kick on as a sport we need to have our superstar teams like Wigan, St Helens, Leeds etc and not drag us down because we will implode in time. What happens if Wigan, St Helens and Leeds suddenly turn crap? Celtic, Salford and Wakefield get good? Do you think they will attract the fans, produce quality players and be the benchmark of rugby league?

I think not. That is why teams which make the money should be allowed to spend it and not be artificially restrained because we want an even competition.

I think that Championship rugby is actually more attractive than SL. It is like RL used to be. Mainly due to the fact that is isn't quite a fast - there is more room for the backs to play.
