| Hope it isn't true about Clubb. It would be a sad end to his Wigan career but I would be more disappointed about the fixture of Wigan vs Hull. I always enjoy playing Hull because their club and fans have that bit of class about them the likes of Warrington, Saints and Hulls neighbours have.

These things don’t have sliding scales of offensiveness, so he’ll be judged in the same way if he’d racially abused a black or Asian player. I wouldn’t sit in a group who’d say it’s like calling him a lazy, useless, cockney **** but we do have double standards as a society when it comes to things like this. Had Clubb done it to Josh Reynolds next week instead and called him an Aussie so and so or to Regan Grace and called him a Welsh one, we wouldn’t bat an eyelid. I’m not sure that’s right but it’s the world we live in right now and players should know better.
I really do hope Clubb comes out and just owns up to it (presuming he’s said it) and takes what’s coming. He’ll get an inflated punishment in the current climate and be made an example of and he’s only himself to blame.'"
I think what people miss is the context behind it. To my knowledge people haven't been enslaved, treated as second class citizens, lynched etc due to being Welsh, Australian etc. They have due to being Polynesian, and those people are still suffering the effects of that today in terms of economics, land rights, the way they are treated at times. That's why a white British guy using Polynesian as part of an insult is worse than using Welsh or Aussie as part of an insult.
If Clubb said what he is alleged to have, he probably hasn't thought about all that, but he needs to be educated, apologise and have some level of punishment. I'm not really of the opinion that he should be sacked for it (if true) if he is willing to apologise and be educated. It still sticks in my craw that Hardaker publicly agreed to go on a homophobia course after what he said, then he didn't turn up (which never made the news).

I get it, I really do but I don’t think Clubb has gone in to that level of detail in his thinking. He’ll get what is coming and that is right and proper. Education is exactly what is needed across the board and right from school age. We could sit and go through history and find examples of many races of people being oppressed/enslaved, yet if you called somebody a ‘ insert nation/race/religion c*nt’ it wouldn’t be an issue. Anyway, that’s for another forum and doesn’t make what Clubb seems to have done right. There are double standards but it doesn’t defend somebody who is in the wrong and he is very much in the wrong.
The main thing I want to see is him take ownership for it (presuming he is guilty).

| Clubb could have an almost impossible job defending this.
It did seem on the end of verbals between both players. On the SKY replay Clubb is walking away from Savelio and then turns back towards him. So why did he turn back? Clubb's version of events will be interesting.
If it was in isolation then he's in a whole load of trouble.

It could be one of those "two wrongs don't make a right" moments.
Savelio has obviously said something to him, but whatever that is it won't make what Clubb has allegedly said right and he should still be punished if he has said it.

Australia and Welsh people are not races that’s the difference, that would be xenophobia. I would also say your race doesn’t have to have had a history or being slaves to qualify for racial abuse. I would say the worst racial abuse in this country i have known or been witness too has been to Asian communities.

Ok whether we call it racism or xenophobia doesn't really matter, it's still not OK. The point I'm trying to make is that there is historical context to why using Polynesian as part of an insult holds more gravity than Welsh/Aussie, due to the way those people have been (and sometimes still are) treated.

| Surely Savelio wouldn't have just made this up because of a heated few seconds exchanges when it can severly damage (if not end) a players career.
I do wonder what he meant by sorting it out on the field had Clubb come back on. Would this have been a scrap, a chat? Would have thought the ref would have been informed immediately.
Racism shouldn't be tolerated on the pitch so does this go on more than we think (and gets settled on the pitch). I know that in the old days there was the saying 'what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch' but times change.
Another potential can of worms is if a Wigan teammate has heard such comments and has to decide whether to corroborate the allegations or look the other way (we all know teammates are a tightly knit unit).
I guess we just have to see how this plays out.

It will happen against every team. I’m not sure how Clubb can come back from this, even just the allegation. Unless it’s categorically proven he didn’t say it.
He’ll be targeted by every Polynesian player in SL, of which there are plenty. Already some on Twitter publicly replying to Savelio about it.
I wonder what Willie Isa and Tommy Leuluai are thinking?

That's what apologists seem to overlook when defending the indefensible.
As you say it's about context. Unfortunately some people are ignorant of history. You only have to read the poison that is posted on twitter. What's disappointing is that It's not a generational thing either. As soon as you see the union flag you know what's coming next.
"It's just the same as them calling us...."

| For me there is a big dose of irony in what Clubb allegedly said. It’s almost like a politically correct racist remark? I’m struggling to get my head around it.

It's been touted elsewhere that just maybe Clubb said the above, rather than what's been alleged.
May be true ... Maybe not
But what if Clubby claims that's what he actually said?
He's already been tried & condemned across much of Social Media.
Folk rushing to judgement, based only one person's take on events, when it's just as possible what was said contained no racial context whatsoever.
Like I said, just a thought.
