Glad we sent that team and not a full strength, wouldn't have been a good pre season test for either side. Bet Leighton are gutted though icon_lol.gif

Sarginson looked very strong all round but his attacking game in particular was impressive. The forwards stood up brilliantly, with Bateman being the best of the bunch.
Powell directed things very well. Williams was a bit quiet but I don't think he plays as well on the right hand side.

Only players who didn't really do themselves any favours were Gelling and Tierney, the former seemed off his game while the latter had a bit of a nightmare under the high ball and helped narrow the gap in the scores somewhat.

Burgess with four tries and a man of the match performance seems a good bet for our left wing position.

Agree particularly about Gelling and Tierney.
The very young player who really impressed me was Ryan Sutton. To play so well at prop at that age (1icon_cool.gif says a lot about him.

was that number 14 or the guy with the head band in the 2nd half? Joe Greenwood looked taking the ball up some times a little light whilst tackling. Who was the Replacement hooker? he looked old school for me and he was directing the play really well and riding the momentum. Over all i was very impressed the youngsters looked to have developed and some still have a little bit more developing. Shame we can't enter a team into championship or the league below, some of them will be twiddling there thumbs i guess.

Just watched the try's on Wigan TV (pictures do exist) and some of John Batemans play was outstanding. He looks a real creator from that second row position with some fine passes and offloads in tight positions. The try Sarginson scored from distance was sensational footwork and pace and showed there exactly why the club brought him in. He was a fantastic junior at London but like many of their squad his game stagnated. I'd also say that on today's evidence Joe Burgess will get that left wing spot. He's big, has pace to burn and took his try's well.

It looks like a very pleasing run out today.

At one point there was 9 players from last years u19's on the field and 7 of them are still eligible for the u19's this season. Some good performances by the young lads with Wright, Lever and Sutton looking good in the pack.

Does anyone know how we are treating the next two friendlies? London Skolars on the Friday and Workington on the Sunday. I assume one will be a first team friendly?

I think the skolars game is down as an academy match, so I expect the workington team to be stronger than todays (hopefully rotating the seniors that played today with those that missed out).

Didn't realise the Skolarts game was first team. Thought it was down as a Wigan XIII for advertising purposes but likely to be the kids I'd have thought. Suspect we'll see more of the real thing at Workington and Saints

Excellent performance from your youngsters today. I felt they were much more 'up for it' than last season. The forwards were relishing the exchanges - especially with Tom Spencer! Burgess looked brilliant, and Sarginson looks like he could be a very astute signing.

Sarginson impressed me the most yesterday I thought his footwork, pace and awareness of his winger was outstanding some nice out the back door passes too. John Bateman did Ok i think he also has some great footwork maybe needs to beef up a little bit would be my only critisism, he didn't get very far when driving the ball in but none the less he had a good game, rocky was awesome I thought he marshalled the lads all day and brought the ball out very well, if Matty Bowen gets injured at any point we have the perfect replacement in hampshire, i saw some great link up play when on the leigh line fast hands from Williams, Burke, Powell etc.. that sort of Rugby was great to see but some of the defence was poor but the young lads will learn from this experience, overall I really enjoyed the second half and I thought some of those kids became men yesterday well done indeed.

I also watched on Wigan TV also and concur with what you say above. Some very pleasing performances there. Defence looked a bit suspect at times down the middle (perhaps those who went to the game can comment?) but attacking wise that was good to watch.

A huge difference from last time this fixture took place. The Wigan boys were definitely 'up for it' yesterday and looked 100% more enthusiastic than last time. This then allowed them to showcase their skills and pace.

I was very disappointed when I saw the team that Wigan had selected but, having watched the game I have to admit that your team selection made a much better spectacle of it - a thoroughly entertaining afternoon, with the correct result at the end of it.

Well done!

There were quite a few occasions where we got caught flat footed/slow to get in position in the forwards and Leigh were quick to exploit it, our lada needed to either get up quicker or slow the ptb. It was very much a second string set of forwards though with Crosby and Bateman the only two I'd have in the best 17. I was hoping Logan Tomkins would stand out but he didn't look particularly special, he didn't seem to play long minutes though to be fair.
