So you seriously think he's only gonna go over there for 2 years and come rushing back to Wigan and take a massive drop in salary?

If SL remains the poor man in the rugby world, he will most likely go to onion rather than SL in this country...

I think we can all work out what the possibilities are, but I can't forecast the exact state of affairs in two years time. And neither can you.

| Does anyone know if he has a girlfriend/wife who may get homesick resulting in him coming home early. Clutching at straws but the Aussies do it to us all the time.

Does my memory deceive, or did Renouf miss his pet camel while here?

Sam could have rendered a crystal ball redundant in his post match interview but chose not to. He didn't even reiterate his "I haven't signed for another club" comment. I know to some he doesn't have to, but it didn't come across as anything other than evasive to me.
Plenty on here seem to be waiting for facts before commenting. I hope I'm wrong but I think you'll have your facts soon enough.

| From what I’ve heard about the lad He loves his Mum (who doesn’t) and I think he may not stay too long in Oz, he may get home sick. So I think he will have a relatively short stay in Oz, come back home, and have a great career in the dark-side. We may never see him in rugby league again here, never mind in a Wigan shirt. Hope I’m wrong!

| NZW wouldnt be my choice of club in the NRL.
I'd want to go and experience the whole Aussie lifestyle bit and not do it by proxy.
Cant see him coming back to England or Wigan.
Thanks for the memories......

| I don't see any signs that NZ warriors are prepared to stump up a huge transfer fee so if that is the case we must surely be entering in to some sort of agreement where Tomkins comes back after x amount of years.
The problem I have with that is how watertight is that type of deal? Not very I'd have thought.
I personally would be looking for upwards of 500k for him.

I have no doubt whatsoever that he's going.
The outstanding issues are what kind of deal is it, how will it benefit us, who or how many will we get to replace him, and how will he take to the life Down Under, etc etc?
None of that is by any means settled. With regard to the last point, in my own personal life I've known four families who emigrated to Aus, and two of them came home again fairly quickly. It simply wasn't for them.
Nothing is fixed at this stage, so for those confidently predicting that Sam has gone for ever, yes, it MUST be a case of their having a crystal ball.

| Quote: wigan pie man "going to go back to what i posted in the Hock thread a few months ago.......the board was in meltdown, people wondering how we would replace Hock.
I used Hanley as an example..it gave a certain Andy Farrell chance to show what he could do.
I said i was looking forward to seeing who would step into Hocks boots......turns out its Liam Faz, ..had Hock still been here Faz would probably still be covering on the bench , as opposed to being a 80 minute player...and i seriously dont think many would replace Faz with Hock the way things have turned out.
Sam? unique, superstar, irreplaceable? NO.
No one player makes a team......im again looking forward to see who steps in .'"
I admire your optimism but players like Andy Farrell, Hanley and Tomkins don't come along very often, especially these days. Sam is the most naturally gifted player of his generation and has a will to win that even Edwards would be impressed by. I would rate him Hanley's equal and the tragedy for British RL is that we will not see the peak of his career.
He is already an all time great of British RL and Wigan. He is the only real star of SL. When he leaves it will be a massive blow to the game in this country.

| Minichello going to become a dad for the first time in December, hardly the best time for him to move half way across the world to start a new life the following month.

| The Roosters fans seem to think time has taken its toll and his is in the bottom 3 players in a key position on the NRL roster. Not seen enough of him to comment but not exactly a ringing endorsement from his own.

This point was made several times by Eddie Hemmings last night.
Ironic, given that, back in the day, he was one in particular who used to call loudly and publicly for a stringent salary cap.
