Couple that with the £15/£20K they get per England performance plus personal endorsements and the freebies that go with playing International RU. It's safe to say that 'if' he's a success he 'could' be earning around £300Kpa as is the rumoured annual income of Chris Ashton.

Spot on. He obviously has no idea how much money the taxman takes if he thinks Joel would be anywhere near a millionaire after 12 years at £80k p.a., even if he lived on bread and water and stayed at his mum and dad's house!!!

80k times 5 is not 300k, it's 400k. Please stop simply pulling figures out of your ass.

Joel Tomkins salary for next season was significantly (eg 50% for the benefit of those who do not understand what this means) hiher than £80k and it would have continued to rise for the remainder of his 5(sic) year contract that he had signed last year.

How people believe he was going to be paid £80k next season is amazing. If people believe this then I would like to see how they imagine Wigan's wage structure was to work next season to get to salary cap level.

No way will Joels basic be 300 or 400k. He may get up there if he cracks the England side but not a chance of that wage at the beginning just with Saracens.

I think it's safe to say Sams new deal at Wigan is worth more then Joels at Saracens. A rather big hint was dropped about that by Lenagan yesterday.

My mistake. However the point I am making is that overall Joel wont be far off earning 300k a year when you take sponsorship deals, boot deals etc into consideration.

If he makes it internationally,which I believe he will, this time next year he will be in the Gavin Henson bracket.

The simple fact of the matter is that Joel will be earning far, far more in RU than he would at Wigan, hence why he has left. And who can blame him.

He has to actually do something before he will get any sponsorship, boot deals etc.
