Am I right in thinking that the overall aim of the big one is to increase home support rather than necessarily attracting huge numbers of away fans or a massive overall attendance? If so, it's about making the game more attractive to the home fans, whether it be reinstating an old local rivalry, or a game against the best Yorkshire have to offer, or next year revenge against Catalans - can we slay the dragons? I guess you can twist most games to make them more appealing, maybe this is something we could look to do for every game (obviously not on as big a scale as the big one)? Or maybe we already do and not living in Wigan I don't notice ![]()
Yeah I think you are right, it is mainly focusing on increasing home support, however by offering an incentive of discounted tickets to away fans too, we are also trying to get more fans to come to the DW every season. Away fans also make the DW a better place for atmosphere because at times when we play Catalan or Crusaders its like a library
Looking at attendances for games so far this season, even against the sides who bring little away support we are still attracting around 13000/14000 home fans. With a healthy away following to every game at the DW there is no reason why we cant aim to have a minimum of 16000+ attendances every game.
Definitely something that like you say can be worked on for each game and if we continue being successful as a club then attendances will carry on increasing.
What you think attendance will be tomorrow? I think around 17000, maybe 18000 depending on any fans who pay on the day.
