| With Foster being a Wigan fan he's probably made the rumour up himself.

| Bit surprised by the level of negativity directed at Foster here. He's a good finisher and a good kicker, with an excellent mental attitude during the game - nothing seems to faze him. I'd be happy to see him at Wigan, although I'd be very surprised if he actually moved anywhere anytime soon.

Agreed but at present we have two better wingers, and Ryan King coming through the academy.
We don't need Foster, but I would have Lomax.

| Quote: 21-12 "Personally I dont get it with Foster at all, he's a good kicker, but I havnt seen him properly beat a man yet or score any outstanding tries, just an average winger in a decent side IMO.'"
Saints fans do tend to watch Saints players more often and while obviously most of us will defend our players against the snearing of opposition fans, most of us will also have a better idea rationally about what our players offer than those same opposition fans. Foster won try of the month in March, I think it was, following the try he scored at Leeds. To do that at speed, with such precision, when under pressure in a first grade game takes a level head, good balance, skill and knowledge of what he can get away with in terms of where he places the ball. Foster is very secure with the ball, which is something all teams want of their wingers (in fact, players generally!). He is fast, reliable under the bomb, a great finisher, shows great positioning, has a good rugby brain and reads a game well ... why is this 'average' just because his stats don't compare to one of your wingers?
As I said, individual coaches ask different things of their players. Maguire might ask for greater involvement from his wingers than does Simmons. A lot of our play feeds off Roby, mainly because we have had to play a lot of young inexperienced lads this year so someone has to take the game forward, but that means our style of play is centrally driven in a way yours might not be. But I am interested to know how Charnley would differ in his skills to Foster? What has he got that Foster hasn't, given the abilities I've listed above?

I seem to remember Richards terrorising him at OT in the grand final until he went off injured.
Anyway no need for the dummy spitting, that why I put IMO, IMO he isnt what he's made out to be, he's a good goal kicker and a decent finisher, doesnt look amazing defensively and poses no threat from over 20 yards out from the line. IMO
Absoulutely no chanc eid swap him for Charnley, Charnley is far more dangerous from all areas of the pitch.

Strong in the tackle, I would trust Charnley one on one.
Comes in for work, and makes decent metres forward. Again IMO Foster has only got the goal kicking on Charnley and Josh is pretty decent at that!

Yes he has.

Works hard in defence but due to his size can find it tough near the tryline.

Foster is one of our most hardworking players. He is all over the place. But if you're talking kick returns, he still needs strength. He isn't as big as Charnley. However, no-one could doubt Foster's willingness to come inside for work and he is not afraid to tackle.

Clearly not. It's just that you haven't watched Foster enough to know what you are talking about. Foster is all that you say Charnley is but with superb kicking skills on top.

| Charnley has everything Foster has but he seems a little bit faster and has size and power, meaning he's a bigger threat in attack and can put in some big tackles in defence. Goalkicking is irrelevant in the comparison. For me, Charnley is the better player.

| I thought Charnley was already a good kicker anyway? If he has a full pre-season like Pat did focusing on goal kicking, I'm sure he would be as good!

So how do you explain Charnleys stats being better than Fosters.
Charnleys percentage success kicking is also better than Fosters.

| Charnley is the better player. It's just fans will always argue and back their own players.

I've already said about (a) Foster's build being relatively slight, and (b) the difference in how coaches use their players (wingers included).

That I doubt.
