| Quote: tank123 "If Maguire goes next season then its a no brainer give the job to Shaun Wane. No need to bring in another coach. Then give assistant to Radlinski. Promote from within rather than bring a new face. Done that way too often in the last 10-15 years for little success.'"
That's what I've been saying. Wane has been at the club long enough in several capacities having started at the Academy. If he isn't ready to be a Head Coach now then he never will be IMO. This way offers the least disruptive way of replacing Madge, and haviung won the Grand Final last year I'd say we'd be better off changing as little as possible

| I've always dreamed since I was a 10 year old kid at the time Shaun Edwards left that he'd one day return to coach the side.
I get the impression there are many fans who would also love it to happen from the romantics standpoint. That combined with the fact that its clear to see through interviews in the media he's developed a reputation as one of the top coaches in RU.
I doubt Edwards would be willing to take an assistant's post under Wane and I can't see Wane being happy with continuing at the club if he's passed on for head coach for the 2nd time, especially given his experience as a number 2 now.
So its one or the other. Common sense points to Wane but I just have an inclination that Edwards would be fantastic as Wigan head coach. If you can't be inspired as a young Wiganer playing under Edwards then why bother?
As for Maguire, I wasn't happy that he seemed to be yet another who's gone back on his word and broken a commitment. But if is in fact a two year deal with an option then he's done nothing wrong whatsoever. It just begs the question why did Wigan and Lenagan inform the fans it was a straight 3 year contract?

[quote="headhunter":lnxdgxk2]Union people are idiots. They almost universally accept that league is a better, faster game played by better athletes, yet for some reason they continue to disregard and belittle it. That game is tedious as hell from start to finish. If he'd ever played or even bothered to give more than a fleeting chance to league he would realise that the game is far more 'technical' than Union ever could be. Booting the ball into touch, scrummaging and forming rucks and mauls aren't areas that involve any skill, technique or mental capacity whatsoever. These are clumsy, outdated facets of the game that are also extremely uninteresting to watch and thus have to be defended in some way by people who are too prejudiced to see the truth.[/quote:lnxdgxk2]: |

| Gutted but sadly think its true, and I would hasten to bet the players already know given their performance against Catalan at the weekend.
The biggest worry for me is I think this loss could put us well back, and instead of a wigan dynasty over the next few years I expected, unfortunately I can see a return to mid table mediocrity. The problem being that I think it will take a hell of a coach to eradicate the culture of compliancy we still sadly have. We saw it in the last 20 against saints this year and in the hull game at home, and last year at bratfud and at home to quins BEFORE we even had the uncertainty of madge leaving, and we've seen it even more since- My worry is with madge gone we will revert back to the team we were under noble, underperforming massively against the weaker teams and losing, only raising our game for the big games.
Add to that, wane seems a shoe in and while he is a cracking bloke, I doubt he is tactically astute enough to give us the edge that madge has. Unfortunately I cant see him doing any better than nobby did!

In my opinion our current playing roster means we will always be in the mix for the forseeable future, no matter who the coach is.

Were doomed.
FFS some Wigan fans need to get a grip with all this doom BS.
We've got a quality bunch of players many are already quality and have years left like Lockers, Tommy & Richards and others like Joel, Sam, Faz, Mossop & Charnley are ripping SL up despite being young guys.
With or without Madge the future is bright at Wigan.

| I could see Shandy Farrell coming back before Sean Edwards to coach Wigan.

Why?
He's just got the Sarries head coaches job for next season.

Farrell has barely begun his RU coaching career. I seriously doubt he'd be allowed to walk into the top job at Wigan. Maybe as Wane's number two seeing as Rads has always distanced himself from it

Amen to that!
IF (and i mean IF) he goes and SW steps up, i can see no reason why we cant kick on. Its not as if he has not already got a good first team record as a stand in. Add to the fact that his record in the reserves is nothing short of phenomenal.
Even if Mr Wane does not take the top job, i am sure we will recruit the very best available. I have heard that Barrow have just got rid of a very highly rated coach?. perhaps this young gun will provide the tactical nuance required to take this great club of ours forward?

For me the major reason we are challenging is due to madge. Without him, while im not saying we're doomed, I just fear we'll fall back to being 'on the cusp challenging' again rather than challenging and leading the way.
As I said before, Wane is not the answer IMO- Cracking lad, and a great motivator but will prove himself not to be tactically astute enough IMO and sadly I think the push into the limelight could end his wigan career. Would much rather keep him as a number 2 as wouldnt want to risk losing him.

Isn't he going back to Oz once his contract is up? Sure it took all Huddersfield could muster to convince to stay on past 2010?

They like to say that but in reality he wasn't offered an NRL job so he stayed.
If the same happens again I'd take him at Wigan.

The players are good enough to challenge.
Simple as that.
