Quote: Paul Thexton "Sounds to me like, in Lima, you guys are expecting the barnstorming runs of Feka (before he's knackered for the next 35 mins), combined with the outrageous handling (dummy/offload) abilities of the likes of Hock, Lauititi (sp?) & Solomona, and with the durability (80 mins) of Fielden/Westwood. And add to that you want the metres gained & toughness of Morley/Graham/Peacock.

It's a hell of a lot to ask of a player, no matter how big his reputation or salary is.'"

I knew he was going to struggle to live up to the hype when I saw him at Cardiff. He's nowhere near as big as I thought he'd be, which is a problem for a prop. He's a good player to have in the rotation without doubt, but he's not the game changer we thought we were signing.

That was only our sixth game of the season. Finch's first, Pat hasn't played yet. Joel to return next week with Fielden and Hock later in the year. That's a lot of quality off the park and to return.

We played poorly and MM said 50% completion in the 2nd half. I was told 62% overall. You won't beat anyone with figures like those!

If the lads have a good week training and play their normal away game they have every chance of a win at Leeds.
These three games were always going to be difficult with all the injuries and suspensions. We have won one and lost one with one to play. Two out of three would be a very accepable return bearing in mind our absentees.
We beat Huddersfield who didn't play badly. Warrington won and deservedly so. Just my thoughts but I watched the HKR v Hudds game last night. Hudds wouldn't have beaten Warrington last night had they had them instead of HKR.

There's a long way to go in the season and Friday's was only our sixth game.

I agree. Lima is still a decent player to have in the 17 but lacks the size to be the big enforcer prop that I was looking for. None of Fielden, Prescott, Lima and Coley are that big in prop terms. They are all quite lean and are certainly dwarfed by the props of teams like Warrington.

it take imports a good few months to hit form, which is why I am not worried at all, Lima and Finch will do well and the Hoff will be totally awesome.

add back into the mix Fielden, Hock, Joel, Richards, Farrell and we will be ok

You cant win long term with kids and on Friday the mix of kids to experienced pros was too great.

I cant believe no-one is discussing how poor Hallibert was (I know that he is always poor, but that does not excuse his performance on Friday). He is not fit to ref an amateur game. In no way did it affect the result but he shouldnt be allowed near a SL game ever.

TBH I think we really missed Fielden, Joel, Deacon, Pat, Gleeson & Piggy. We do look a little lost at Dummy Half, but if we can keep Deacon & Finch fit, & move Tommy into 9, we should be ok. Our kicking game needs to improve massively also, we don't keep pressure on in the last 3rd cause our kicking is so poor.

Also I feel that we need to address the RH side, I think Marsh & Goulding isn't a good combination, they are not particularly tall or good denfensively. I don't know why but I have often thought Gleeson made Goulding look good?? Not too sure what anyone else thinks????

Ill second those comments about Halibut, he's the worst ref in the league but the rfl seem to love the romance of having a french ref, shouldn't be anywhere near superleague, "we want ganson"!.

Indeed. Wasn't there an incident where Matt King flicked the "v"'s at Wire fans who were giving him grief IIRC?

From the time he ripped us apart in the CC Semi he has never looked back really. When is he due back from injury?

Lima works hard and finds the ground for quick PTB I'll give him that but he doesn't seem to make any decent metres at all with ball in hand with Coley, Prescott and even Mossop laying a platform for us making it easier. Having little go forward was a reason we lost the game and Lima doesn't look particularly brilliant.

I know Fielden had this problem at the club and I was critical of him but Fielden always seemed to run at the biggest blokes on the field. I was frustrated when I saw Mick Monaghan tackle Lima one-on-one on Friday night, especially seeing as he is a prop.

Hopefully I'll be wrong about his contribution and will be happy to eat humble pie but atm I can't see it.

Interestingly, statistically he's our best prop -

Lima

Apps - 5
Carries - 69
Metres - 485
Metres per carry - 7.02

Coley

Apps - 6
Carries - 65
Metres - 405
Metres per carry - 6.23

Prescott

Apps - 6
Carries - 79
Metres - 519
Metres per carry - 6.56

So not only does Lima make more metres per carry, he takes the ball up more on average than the others.

Not bad for someone who many think hasn't hit form yet...

Lima was Wigans top metre maker on Friday with 123, which is exactly what we needed after Feka.

Statistics are not always what they seem to be. Lima got some pretty big run ups in the Wire game which the likes of our 'plodder' props did not which probably improves the metres gained.

Either way, its a difference of opinion and I'm personally slightly disappointed with our go forward so far this season and see Lima as a weaker prop forward than our others. Hopefully he'll change my opinion
