I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we knew

Richie Mathers had no confidence, and that was made worse by the fans. the night we played and the crowd cheered when he caught the ball, and booed him when his name was read out was one of the most cringeworthy experiences of my (rugby watching) life.
ATEOTD these are people, they read these forums. What good does it do really to take things overboard all the time?

Spot on jon, if anybody is offended by what is written on an internet forum then in my mind there pretty weak individuals. Oh but hang on I forgot we cant criticize players on a public forum can we.

thank feck were not a footie club
imagine what IL would say then
jeez - if hes blaming playres performance on what they read on forums :
1 stop them reading forums
2 get the coach to have a word about their lack of confidence
3 if they didnt play crud they wouldnt be criticised
sounds to me like some people arent living in the real world

Why the hell should a pro sportsman be so concerned by the fans in the stands if they have the backing of the coach and there team mates.
If you cannot stand the criticism and scrutiny of the fans then i personally would not back them to have the nerve to take a high ball in a grand final.
Much of this sport and all pro sport is about tempremant, you live or die by it, big club players back themselves. Fielden for example is still backing himself even though he is falling short of the mark, Mathers has never been a player to back himself and will never play a major role in a trophy winning side.

Said by who ... CP Wigan and his mates?
Wake up and smell the coffee. There are different ways of running clubs, and at present the guy in charge has given us a large, talented squad filled with young, home-grown talent which is now on decent bucks and for that reason alone probably won't defect either to other clubs or to RU. The coaching is an issue for sure, but after tonight only someone born yesterday would think that Noble's future lies at Wigan.
I'll say it again ... if you want answers to some penetrating questions (an example of which I've yet to hear from you), then attend the meeting and ask them.

Another fans forum another deflection exercise, at least that what it seems from the comments thus far.

| I can't believe some people are criticising IL for going to look at players and finding out that they were either too expensive or not right for the club and so deciding not to sign anyone. If the top draw players whoever they are can not be afforded or are have problems that make them unsuitable then not signing anyone is the right thing to do.
The alternative would be to sign someone of lesser quality just to have a signing to announce. If this happened no doubt many fans would then be decrying him for signing what they would call " an over the hill/ here for the cash Aussie" who they would then slag off all year for keeping this or that young player out of the side (whether or not that is actually the case).
Also the anti tampering deadline is not until next month so we may have signed a player/players from SL to strengthen and he wasn't able to announce or even suggest anything. Some people may not be happy with some of the SL players mentioned in rumours if any come to be true. But I bet not many people were calling for us to go after Carmont before he got here and showed us what he can do.

To be fair, if you buy into the whole '18th Man' thing, where fans see themselves as a positive influence on the team, how can you dismiss the negative influence fans can also have?
Mathers is a completely different player at Warrington than he was at Wigan. He was also a different player at Leeds. There are a lot of factors in this, but we all seem to accept that we can have a positive influence on players, but then dismiss we have a negative impact on them.

| Quote: jonh "Disagree, its ok to look but Hunt was never a realistic Wigan signinging, we may as well say we were looking at Inglis, smacks of a desperate play for credibility when in truth we cannot recruit a good coach nor can we attract the right type of player.
The fact Hunt was even mentioned is a joke, especially considering his apparent statement about the cap and also the fact we are so lacking in forwards.
Will be interesting to see the media take on the events of tonight as to me me the only thing worth them reporting is the fact "Wigan try to Snare Hunt".'"
FFS are you the bloke that sponsors Pat Richards ?!? The state of the cap is because we spent the money we chose not to spend in Australia on players we already have. The money was there to spend when IL went to Aus, the factors I mentioned before lead him to the conclusion that the money was better spent here. So he did.
IL never said he tried to sign KH, he looked at him as a possible and moved on, other players were named but I forget who. I'd love to see what evidence you have that we "cannot" sign a good coach as well, It may just be that keeping Noble for another year could facilitate just that.
You're putting a negative slant on the things that have been said and you didn't even hear them said. Short of a full transcript or a DVD of proceedings you're never going to have the full benefit of having heard everything said, in the context it was said and in the order it was said.
As for a desperate play for credibility, I think the mere fact that the current board is willing to front up to the support in the first place gives them far more credibility than their predecessors who allowed "unrealistic signing" Gasnier to play us so he could get a better contract at home, flouted the SC and eventually turned us into a laughing stock.

I'll say again as it obviously hasn't got through to you, I have no problem with the questions asked by those in attendance my biff is with the answers given by Lenegan, understood? Those answers given by Lenegan I'm disappointed in you have pretty much mentioned in the post of yours I have quoted above.

Hunt due to his price tag was always unrealistic end of.
He was never a realistic option given the restraints of the cap IFL often mentions.
The fact that we mention him as someone we looked at holds about as much credibility as Gateshead "looking at him", Tronc, yes i can handle were he to be mentioned but Hunt never.
Sounds like headline grabbing at its finest (that the agents can use against us) and a desperate attempt to salvage some credibility from the fact Wigan are potentially having to put up with a second choice coach and no new signings.

To be fair CP is right I went last time and will not go again. Was bought a ticket but refused. They had an agenda the last time with ready questions and asked certain people in the audience for questions to answer at the end. The difficult ones were one worded answers.
Was a joke really as it was aimed at making him look good but from the last forum to this he hasnt delieved on most of his promises.

Firstly by naming Hunt, who was never a realistic option we once more give the agents ammo for future negotiations, regardless of if we are interested in them or not.
Secondly we have offered the coaching position to 1 person other than Noble, who turned us down.
It seems now BN is stating he wants one more year or nothing at all as though he is in a position to call the shots. So basically we cannot bring a coach to the club who is willing to take a chance and earn a contract by proving themselves so we have to put up with our second choice in BN.
Forgive my pesimism, but what makes you think given the current track record of converting targets we can get the right man for 2011?
