Got to be honest i've literally just finished watching the replay and was going to come on and post how suprised i was at Fieldens level of preformence.

Watching it closer and out of the heat of the moment he got us some momentum in the 2nd half by constantly finding his front and not getting turned on his back. He didn't made many metres at all but didn't get dominated either.

He did however miss a couple of poor tackles in the first half and made a handling error but overall his preformence was decent.

He can preform so much better for us though. I'd just like to see him look more 'up' for games.

He looks very flat at the moment.

Lets just get something straight about this, Fielden is what 60/70% of the player of 3/4 years ago?????

His wages are whatever they are, we can't do anything about that and irrespective of What we are paying a player I try to look at whether he actually deserves a place in the team.

Fielden I admit has been a disappointment compared to the Very High expectations we ALL had of him.

HOWEVER

There are many things he does bring to the team that aren't "Special" but are needed by the team to make us more effective and these things are often not the Eye Catching things that are Noticed ala Bailey/O'Loughlin

Theres no doubt he's covering Fekas backside in the tackling department and the partnership they seem to have is working in that we no longer seem to look vulnerable just before & Just after HT when Feka is usually on.

His yards per carry arent actually any different than what they have been for the past 5 or 6 seasons inc the season he was ajudged Best forward in the world!

He is making more tackles per game than he has at Any Time in his career and Pro Rata (Considering he's only playing 45/55 minutes each week now comapred to 80 minutes in 2004/2005/2006/2007) He is Averaging Massively more per game.

I believe the Only part of the game (And I admit it was probably the Part we bought him for!) is the Attacking/breaking the line prop of 2005 early 2006!

According to the Stats he used to make 14/15 Clean Breaks a season at bradford, Whilst at Wigan he's made 4 in 3 seasons!!!!!!!!!!!!

However he's now averaging 25/26 tackles a game when only playing what 50mins a game???
He used to average 21/22 tackles a game when playing 80!!!!!!!!

Overall

A disappointment - Yes!

Has he shirked the workload - No!
And given he's probably taking a lot of Payback from other forwards he has dished it out to over the years he's still there week in week out and very rarely misses a game in a Sport where he could find an excuse/injury Not to play each week and collect his money without trying!'"

Its good to see a thought through reply.
Rather than gets paid too much + Yorkie + Not Feka + Not a crowd pleaser = Crap

The irony BK. I do find it disrespectful that you took the name of a club legend yet behave as you do in his name.

The combined salary of Fielden and Feka is nearly between 400,000 and 500,000 per season. Ask Mick Hogan if you want confirmation.

What a strange poster you appear to be. You think Feka and Fielden are a single player.

How odd.

Does that mean if the opposition break through the tackle of one of them, the other has to step aside and allow them to run through?

Maybe they are not allowed to pass to one another, or have to take it in turns to pack down in the scrum?

I have heard seen some tripe being posted on here over the years. You have only been on 2 minutes and are already making a play for the top 10.

Yeah because I'm sure Mick Hogan would disclose that kind of information icon_lol.gif . I highly doubt if he would even know it - he works in the marketing department not payroll as far as I'm aware.

Also given Farrell was our highest earner before leaving on £166,667 per year (£1m 6 year contract) if I remember correctly, I would be very disappointed if Fielden and Feka's combined salaries were above £300k. I would like to think it was more in the £200-250k region at most.

Call it 450k then!!!

Jesus H Christ!!!!! Noble & IL are not doing a bad job getting the other 23 or so players in the other 1.15 million are they!!!!!!

So 2 x players are taking over a Qtr of the wage bill?? Whilst 23 players take under 3qtrs!!!!!!!!

No wonder theres such a bad feeling at the club!!!!!!!

Considering Bailey's on 200k a year and Gleeson is getting 150k a year along with Tommy/Richards/Riddell/Roberts!

That leaves about 100k for the other 15 players inc Phelps/Carmont/Smith before his injury/Hock before his supension/Coley/Goulding/Hansen/J Tomkins/Prescott/Pryce etc etc etc!!!!!!!!

They must be playing for Peanuts then!!!!!!

Unless that is no-one REALLY knows how much they are getting!!!!!

I wonder which one of the stories is true! icon_rolleyes.gif

Quote: jjb10 "Why is it mis conception?

1.Does Fielden come one with Feka. Yes
.
2.Does Fielden do more tackling when he is on the field than Feka. Yes.

3.Does Feka do 2 / 3 big runs tires then gets targeted in defence. Yes

4.Is Fielden hated because how much he cost? Yes.

Is the Leeds pack line of, Peacock, Burgess, Leuluai, Lauitiiti, Bailey & Buchcanan, better than ours? IMO yes.

Would Fielden play better in a big pack like Leeds and Warrington than he does in a light weight pack like ours. IMO yes.

Look at S. Burgess had a very good year the other year in a big Bradford pack, not had a good year in a light weight pack this year.

The 1st 4 points are fact, the others are my opinion. You can agree or disagree that's what a debate is about, but you cant doubt Facts.'"

Can somebody explain to JJB what a fact is

Since Wigan played Salford in the CC QF, the starting props for Wigan have been Coley and Prescott. That is a fact Stuart Fielden was absent for the CC QF, suspended?

For the last 6 game Wigan have played Feka and Fielden have been on the reserve bench That is a fact

Fielden has started games on 3 occasions with Feka. He has started as many games with O’Carroll in preference to Feka. He has started more games with Coley, 8 Those are facts.

So we can conclude that because you can only recall the most recent games you initial premise is a misconception because it is incorrect.

That is a fact

Yes the salaries at Wigan are hugely unbalanced. IL is not to blame for Fielden and Feka but maybe if some of you actually thought for a while you would realise why the club cannot sign all the big name stars you want and why they gave new contracts to Coley and Phelps. Signing Martin Gleeson for 180,000 per season is an IL decision. Gareth Hock will free 100,000 per season. Why do you think no announcement has been made regarding Bailey or why we are trying to sign Paul Johnson. In 2011 you will see a far better situation when Fielden and Feka's contracts end.

£180,000 a season? icon_lol.gif

That's a new one on the Gleeson family, I can tell you that.

He was paid 150,000 a season at Warrington. He will be paid more than 180,000 in 2010 because he is being paid far less currently.

I was suprised watching the replay at his level of preformence because at the game i thought it was pathetic yet watching the replay it went up to 'decent'.

Decent isn't enough for me i'm afraid for a guy thats getting paid such a good wage. I don't see why we should just sweep that under the carpet icon_confused.gif He does deserve a place in the side( just about) at the moment but he really does, by his own standards, look a spent force and pretty much ready for hanging the boots up(if money wasn't getting in the way).

My second point stands in that i don't understand why people make so many excuses for him! It goes from burnout to the mason punch to a lack of support from the other props and now to the fact he's carrying Feka's ar*e through games.

The 'fact' is he isn't producing anywhere near his best form and we paid out nearly half a million quid and gave him a top wage to prouduce his best. We can't afford in the age of the salary cap to be carrying a top earner just because he makes an extra 5 tackles per match then he used to! We need him to hit the mark each and every week.

I look forward to next season with interest tbh. It's his last year on this huge deal and if he wants another with Wigan or anywhere else we'll have to see a huge turnaround in form from him. I get the feeling we'll see a totally different Stuart Fielden then we have for the past 3 and a half years which will tell it's own story i'm afraid.
