| Quote: inside_man "we're talking about how Nobles tenure at wigan should be judged.
People are still talking about him being the most successful coach in sl history, but he's not won anything with wigan.'"
But people are suggesting Justin Morgan as a good example but going off what you are saying he hasnt won anything with Hull KR (bar NL1) so he hasnt had success with them.
However if you look at it that he has turned an average side in KR around to be a strong top end team, surely the same can then be said about Noble in that he has turned us from Bottom of the table to top 4/5.

We seem to have this same argument each season at Wigan. We get to the tail-end, the team run into form, and it changes some people's minds about what the problems are. In particular we hear this theory that Noble coaches his teams to only play well at the end of the season.
Does anyone really believe that's even possible? If so, doesn't anyone think that it would actually be completely ridiculous?
Why on Earth would a coach prepare his team to play badly for a sizable chunk of the season? It doesn't make any kind of sense.
My view is that it's an invention of fans who are seeking any explanation they can for Wigan's bizarre see-sawing form. The more likely cause in my leyman's opinion is that the team aren't prepared properly pre-season, and come out for the first couple of months half-cooked, but gradually put it together themselves during a succession of tough matches, many of which are mind-concentrating defeats.
That's at least as good an explanation as saying that Noble plans it this way.'"
that's all i can think of.
That and the fact that certain players only started to play when the weather improved. A decent coach wouldnt let them get away with that.
As good as barrett was you knew if it was raining he was unlikely that he was going to play as good as we know he can.

| The same people who want Noble out now are the ones who will be calling for the coach's head this time next year because the people in the new set-up ( players and coaching staff) are taking time to settle and gel!!!!
This has been Wigan's problem for the last 10 years - no stability. Get off Nobby's back!

Last time I looked Noble's been here for three and a half years. If stability = having to accept three years of underachievement, count me out.

Spot on.
We do well at the tail end and people forget about all that has gone before. They quote how we did in the playoff games and forget/ignore the fact that we lost about half our games during the league rounds. Same happens each year and the cracks are papered over, everyone thinks its fine and nothing changes.
I don't much care whether other fans are willing to accept it anymore. The only people that need to acknowledge that our trend of poor starts must stop are IL and the board. I hope that they do and that if they give Noble 1 more season to work with new signings that they have the guts to give him the boot mid season if we serve up the same early form again.

And me! Noble has failed to deliver and should be looking for a new club for next year, our form overall during his reign has been terrible and a few runs in the playoffs are a pretty weak defence.

I have ambition, you obviously don't.
I've watched for the best part of 60 years.
This club means more to me than you will ever know. I've seen the Boston, Ashton, McTigue eras, followed them through the relegation to Keighley, Blackpool, Fulham etc. Don't lecture me on lack of ambition.
Stability at the moment is what we need. Give Noble one more year to let him finish the job he set out to do, and then if it hasn't happened move on.
I'm probably more fortunate than you in that I can see what's happening beneath the first team. We are going the right way as a club.
And I'll say it again because you may have missed it - I bet you wouldn't have defended Millward by using his Stains record would you?'"
No I wouldn't defend Millward because in the opposite direction to Noble , he was rarely there at reserve and academy levels and was destroying the confidence at lower levels.
Ask any of the players at academy / U 21 levels or read Radliskis book.

| We have got to have some stability, the new players are starting to perform, and the Wigan "youngsters" are improving all the time, with others learning in the reserves.
Look at Pat Richards first season and look at him now.
I was at Bridgend and remember that night well, and the day after, and the day after, but after Friday can't wait for the next two games.
Give Brian Noble a new contract, but get it sorted IL.

| Personally i think that when you know your Gaffer is looking for someone to take HIS job over on the other side of the world,Noble has carried on,and now Wigan look to have got some consistancey going,,,local derby next Friday which you could well win,,followed by a semi final,,again winnable,,,You could finish 4th ateotd......at the moment you have got momentum, and people are talking about getting rid....Wigan have a big 3 months coming up,after whats happened this season you never know.

That is simply not true.
There are always malcontents who will complain about anything. We see them on the terraces, we see them on this message board. But much of the disapproval aired about Noble's record at Wigan is based on a factual analysis of reality. It's not been made up.
The evidence of countless poor performances (let's not get carried away by the last quarter of each season) strongly indicates that Wigan are not as well coached as they could be. Shouting "get off Nobby's back" doesn't even start to address that very fundamental problem.
And as for 'stability' ... well that's starting to sound a shield for someone to hide behind. Nobby's been here longer than any other coach in recent times, and has easily had long enough to inject some stability. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing the word. It's way overused.
Other clubs go through regular personnel changes - both among the playing staff and the coaching staff, but that doesn't stop them challenging for honours. It's time we started doing the same.

Watching the club for 60 years and going to the reserves doesn't give you some mythical power. I watched in the second division like a lot of people did, but it has absolutely no bearing on what we need to do as a club now.
I've not time for Millward but could just as easily defend him by pointing to his record at Stains to show how good a coach he his, but that has no bearing at his time at Wigan, just like Noble's record at Bradford shouldn't be used as an excuse for his Wigan record.
Noble's had nearly three years to move us on since the 2006 season and it hasn't happened. Time for some fresh ideas and a new approach.
