If this was incorrect reporting I would have thought the parties in question - particularly IL - would have been up in arms or at the very least issued a denial. The deafening silence from Wigan tells its own tale TBH.'"
Kearney agent didn't actually say he's been offered the job, he says:
""Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan came out to Australia. He was looking at a few candidates and one of them was Stephen.".
Maybe Lenagan doesn't want to admit we're sounding out candidates and doing his negotiating in public. The point being nobody on here knows if X,Y or Z has actually been offered the job, it's just pure speculation some people want to portray as fact, when they haven't got a clue.

| If you read what's actually been said though it's pretty clear that Lenegan went to Australia looking at coaches as well as players.
But yesterday his agent, Chris Orr, revealed the Kiwis coach had decided not to enter into contract negotiations with Wigan for fear it would cost him his role with the New Zealand national side.
"Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan came out to Australia and he was obviously looking at a few different candidates and one of them was Stephen," Orr said.
"We had a discussion but nothing further than that, really, because Stephen decided that due to his commitments as New Zealand coach and the success he's had with the team, the time wasn't right to leave that job.
"He basically thinks he's started something pretty special with the current group of Kiwis and he'd like to see that through to the finish. He's very happy with things as they are at the moment with the Kiwis.
"We didn't get to the negotiation process because Stephen went through his pros and cons and decided the time wasn't right."

I disagree with the highlighted bit. IL seems to have a policy of not commenting on what he regards as private issues. Club business, contract negotiations, his personal relationship with players, coaching staff, etc, all clearly comes under that - and I don't really blame him.
He also tends not to respond to fan speculation, which much of this thread has concerned itself with (i.e. whether or not Noble knew he was leaving before he read it in the papers). If he did - which I'm advised is the case - there really is no issue here at all.

'"
Lenegan has come out many times in the press and the fans forum earlier this year and stated that he will only comment when things are sorted and not comment on speculation.
If you read the Kearney reports, he sounded him out along with others coaches to their availabilty, just as he would when looking at players i.e. Newton from Bradford a while back. What's the point discussing or commenting on every approach that's been made by the club?

| This isn't speculation though, its a report that clearly says IL is touting the coaches job around, he needs now, to make a statement to clarify things for the supporters and announce that Noble is going. That is the proper thing to do.

The uncertainty on this thread alone - about whether Wigan offered Kearney a deal or were merely sounding him out - proves that it's speculation.
Or are you another one of these people who doesn't believe the chairman should sound coaches and players out for possible future positions in case the news is leaked? If so, no doubt you'd also be one to complain when we suddenly can't sign anyone because all the deals have already been done by other clubs.

| all in all once again doesn't give you confidence in how this club is being run, lenegan in one breath says he is acting on nobles behalf regarding future signings the next is allegedly touting other coaches, if this is true logic would say then if he hasn't found a coach then he hasn't signed any new players,as in his words the coach gives him a wish list of players. on the field and off it we are a joke.

it is how lenegan seems to go about doing things and spouting his mouth off that is being critisised, not whether he should replace noble or not. how can he say noble will be judged on future results (presumably he means whether we get to wembley or not) then we find out he has been touting other coaches 3 weeks ago. i personally don't have any faith in the guy.

Do we know 100% that he offered the job to Kearney?
What would you rather Lenaghan do, wait till the end of the season to start looking for a new coach or start thinking about plan b now?
If he sat on his backside watching us play like we have been doing till October any good coaches wouldn't be available and the new coach would be limited in the players he could bring in as most would already know where they were going to play in 2010 or be in talks.

no i don't know 100% that he offered the job, do you know 100% he didn't.
what he should do is stop messing around, announce noble won't be getting a new contract (and if he walks we will have to promote shaun wane until the end of the season, can't be any worse) that way we can sort a coach out asap and new players, not wait until october.

It is the modus operandi employed.
