The strongest players who are still at Saints now backed him to the hilt, he fell out with the board not the team due to his strong character, exactly what Wigan need right now.'"
Yes I am sure. I know players there at the time were unhappy with Hanley. Thinking about it now, we had also been knocked out of the challenge cup by leeds, and beaten at home by Bradford. Hanley's signings also failed in major fashion namely Trindall and Phil Adamson.

Imagine an NRL team being better than a Sl team?!
A lot of coaches never rated Martyn hence his lack of international apperances.

Whats your opinion of Millward?
I also know players there at the time who loved and still do love Hanley, but lets not allow that to deflect from the question about Millward.

| Ian Lenagan was seen having a KFC in Ince with Andy Gregory last week - draw your own conclusions.

You mean like Brisbane were against us twice? Or Melbourne were against Leeds? Or Wests against Bradford? Oh wait a minute, they werent!
I think Millward was a decent coach, who did well on the whole. However, the side was made much better by Daniel Anderson.

If you seriously think the NRL teams were better than the Sl teams you clearly lack a valid view.
Who was the more successfull coach Millward or Anderson at Saints?
Was Millward a decent coach at Wigan?

| What's Alex Murphy doing ?
If nothing else, he would give the players a rocket up their backsides and drop non- doers, in his own inimitable way

Stu
That's no way to describe Andy Gregory - he gave you stirling service over the years.
Unless you were referring to Ian Lenagan.................... or The Colonel himself

33718_1325770967.jpg Games as big as Grand Finals define individuals and clubs. Remember, we only rent these journeys. In my time I had Pat Richard's shirt. Ellery Hanley had Sean O'Loughlin's jersey. Sam Tomkins is wearing Radders' number one jersey. Andy Coley is wearing Shaun Wayne's jersey. You have to make a mark in these shirts before you hand it down to someone else. Hand it back. So be aware for 80 minutes that you are not only playing, but you are also writing history and creating legacy. How many people actually write history - not many? A big stage demands big players…..INSPIRE YOUR TEAM MATES.

Who said the NRL teams were better?
It depends what you call success Anderson won More Challenge Cups and topped the super league 4 years in a row, Millward However when 2 Super Leagues.
Millward's performance at Leigh and Saints would suggest that yes he was a decent coach, He was fighting an uphill battle at the start with Wigan, not made any easier by the dressing room turning against him.

Shocking coach. Regarded as a bot of a joke within the coaches circle. BN makes him look like a guru.

My bad on the NRL, i meant to say that the NRL teams are far superior to SL teams despite the WCC results.
A coach has to be right for a club. Millward was wrong for Wigan because of his personality, and history, just as Hanley may have been for Saints, despite his success.
It does not mean that Hanley would not be good for Wigan.
