So you're basing your opinion of what you have seen of him recently? With a doubt since as he has got older he will of lost a bit of pace, but the transition he made from Full Back to Stand Off later in his career brought his game on even further.
If he had lost the things your mentioning (pace and the ability to tackle) he would be nowhere near an Australian or Queensland shirt. Darren Lockyer will always be mentioned as one of the greatest players ever in the game. |

Hes not selected for his pace or tackling thesedays. He's selected for his understanding of the game and leadership.

I think you're getting very confused. The poster said that Darren Lockyer was catching up Andrew Johns as the greatest player HE had ever seen. From that comment I'd guess that the poster is probably no older than 25. So he wasn't saying he was the greatest player of all time.
Then since then other posters have said he will be mentioned along with some of the games great, we aren't saying he is the greatest player of all time.

Im 27 and your correct..Of all the players i have sat down and watched and been able to appreciate there skill and rugby knowledge. they are the 2 best i have seen..
I could have said people like Hanley who i remember playing for wigan..but being only about 10 at the time you dont appreciate how good the guy really was. it was a few years after him leaving and me watching old games on video did i fully appreciate the man and his greatness., |
