| Quote: NickyKiss "If we were to go for Myler it would send a signal out to everybody that Wigan are serious about getting back to the top. He's the best young player about at the moment(who's not already at Wigan) and every single club in superleague would like him in their side.
It sounds like he'll be leaving at the end of the year but i'd have Warrington down as favourites for him at the moment and it wouldn't suprise me in the slightest to see him end up at Saints. They've found the money in years gone by for much sought after players and would do again for a player who'll easily replace Long.'"
Myler is all class, and behind a top pack would be even more effective, but i would be slightly dissapointed if saints went for him as it would show a complete lack of faith in Eastmond/smith and our junior development.
Where would Sam play if you signed him? stand off? would he be happy moving over?

| Lenagan needs to be careful here.
He did exactly the same thing last year when he openly spoke to both UK and Sydney press saying he would be speaking to this player and that player all the time creating headlines and raising fans' expectations before eventually disappointing.
If he's going to do the same thing this year, then he has to deliver.
Mason obviously would be phenomenal, not sure Orford is the way to go considering his age and form. And btw Jonh - you sure there's 'bugger all chance of Poore coming over?'
I know for a fact Wigan are in for him and stranger things have happened. He would be right of the top of my list. Obviously Wigan aren't short of competition for his signature however.

Big call. I rate him but i do not think he will be a top class half whereas i think Myler is. From what i have heard though it does seem likely Myler will end up at Wire.

A lot of teams would want him, but one look at his comments on his st.george profile says he's going nowhere. he wants SOO and rep footy, and has a growing GYM business

I still do not think we will see Justin Poore in SL next season, there are too many NRL clubs in for him and at 24 he has 2 more big contracts in him, the second one may see him come to SL but the first one which he will be looking to arrange for 2010 i am sure will see him remain in the NRL.
I have no doubt we are in for him, i would be angry if we were not but i do not think it is a signing that will come to fruition, much more likely to snare O'Mealy or Mason than Poore.

This has been my contention for a while. I'd love to see Myler at Wigan, but I'm sure it would be a problem for Sam. Tommy has signed a new contract, Riddell is here for another three years. Sam would feel he was in direct competition with Myler for the other spot. I'm sure the plan would be to give both of them regular game time, but would it be regular enough for either? Wigan need to replace Smith with a creative half. If it's an old pro, Sam won't feel that he has no future at the club. So, for once, signing a skilled but older Aussie - someone like Orford or Lockyer - might be a good move.

Personally i feel it will be McIllorum who will be first to suffer should we bring in a half regardless of age.

Sams playing 6 anyway so it wouldn't make a difference. When he's started it's been at 6 with Leuluai at 7 and when he's come from the bench it's been at 6 with Smith at 7.

The Lockyer rumours seem to have died a death.
Just watching him now against Wests and it had me thinking about the possibility of a deal for him. He hasn't re-signed with the Bronco's as of yet and will surely be making a call on his future within the next month or so.
With Lenagan being over there at the minute it makes you wonder!

I think Lockyer's a pipe-dream, to be honest. I was talking about a player of that ilk rather than actually making a bid for Lockyer.
When you consider the fuss made when Wire signed Andrew Johns on a three-match deal, imagine what would happen if Wigan were to sign Lockyer for two years. We'd be the talking-point of the game again.
Can't see it though. Even at 31, he'd want a fortune.

Is that your phrase of the day or is it just a pipe-dream?
I agree though Lockyer will be set for life if he sees his career out with the Bronco's with off field opportunities coming his way with the club when he does finally retire.

That's a good point actually.
We laugh at the Aussie press for worrying that we're going to plunder their star players, and say that they haven't a clue about the financial state of the British game. But the reality is that we ourselves are now discussing players who surely will never come to SL. Mason, Lockyer, Thurstan, Poore etc - have all been put forward as serious possibilities in recent weeks. Are we completely deluding ourselves or is it just fun to speculate on such things?

It's a mixture of both depandant on who the person is reading the rumours.
The only out and out top line Australian international thats come over here in the past god knows how long is Matt King and he's made it obvious whilst he's been here that it was pure greed that enticed him in the first place.
The likes of Orford, O'Meely, Finch and co are realistic possibilities because they aren't playing rep rugby anymore.
