| If Bentham had of refereed the match properly things would have been different, I would love to have seen 10 metres. Bad pitch bad referee equals rubbish attack

Indeed, although I'm sure you were less concerned when your Offside players scored early doors
Very enjoyable game, we huffed and puffed but just didn't have any smarts on the pitch and it cost us in the end.

| I can't quite believe that this thread exists... Saints have proven to have a brilliant defence this year which and will give penalty after penalty to avoid conceding a point although clearly these were not going to be forthcoming with Bentham yesterday.
But... apparently it's Wigan's attack at fault.
We did however manage to make a mess of "the move" out to the wings, the timing wasn't quite there.

| I'm not to taking away the fact it was a good win but most of us will know when we are back to our best when fluent rugby gets played.my concern before the season started was Williams and still is I will give the lad as long as it takes but Blake greens boots were big boots to fill in a Key position.Smith is missing green would most people agree with that? Farrell aswell? There's a bigger picture!

| To be fair to the OP, I thought your halves look average. I know williams got mom but God knows how.
All season we have been ripped to shreds on the edges apart from yesterday. I've not been impressed with your halves anytime this year either to be honest.
Great game tho, I expected I bigger loss to be honest. Both teams plsyed with heart and great fair hard attitude. Great advert for the game.
You punished us for two school boy errors and we didn't take any of the very few chances we had.
Congrats.

Doubt that's happened in weather like that and on a pitch like that though!
Very difficult to play expansive rugby league in those conditions. The injuries put Saints at a disadvantage before the game but those conditions were perfect for the make up of your side.
I do agree about our halves though. Our last tackle options were pathetic especially from Smith.

| One big positive for me about the halves was that both at times actually ran towards the opposition goal line with ball in hand rather than running sideways.
Neither are taking enough control of the game but yesterday was a significant improvement on the rest of the year.

Even so, I'm surprised you couldn't open us up more. We had wingers at fullback, centres on the wing, Backrow in centre etc.

| Our attack still isn't there but in a few matches (This and the Brisbane game) we have shown if we turn up with the right attitude, teams will struggle to post points. Admittedly, Saints had no halves on the field and probably would have won with Burns/Walsh on the field. Our attack is hit and miss, we do have a few great plays which created breaks yesterday but the timing isn't there yet. How many times did the ball go to floor behind the man?!
Overall I think both teams can take this as a confidence builder for the rest of the year. The game had great intensity. Saints, with their spine missing came up with a great performance and Wigan haven't clicked yet but are 3rd in the table.

We're off form for sure and the win was built on determination and guts. Even so I still think any team would have struggled to really play an expansive game yesterday and cut a team up. Most of the time we weren't willing to take the chance of pushing the ball wide.
It makes the win all the sweeter that we had to play up the middle which is something Saints would have wanted (I know your fans did in the build up to the game).

I know what your saying but I'm not suggesting you play like Harlem globetrotters. Just that simple move you do that's so effective agsinst us would have tore us a new hole

Every time we did try it somebody threw a bad pass behind a runner. We certainly weren't at our best and haven't been all year but they'll get there.

| Our timing is off and you would hope that would come with time. I'm not convinced about our structures atm. We seem to be playing with a very flat attacking line and just passing it across. The dummy runners are not existent and there are very few options to turn the ball back inside, which makes the plays very easy to read. Manfredi and then Gelling getting bundled into touch were two clear examples of this; it was so easy for the Saints defence to slide across and see what was coming.
Most important thing is we're improving and getting points on the table. I think we would have all taken the current situation after the Cas game a few weeks ago. Looking forward to Salford on Monday now and hope we can back it up!
