We didn't have you on the rack IMO. You're defence was pretty solid in that first 10-15 minutes. I couldn't see us scoring (mainly because you can read most of our plays in advance).

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Something we have done since Dobson arrived in Wigan.
When you have the other team on the backfoot, play on.

| The one at the very start was baffling from a Wire point of view. We gave you back possession about three times on the bounce, the last set you were quite close to getting through then you got a penalty and took the kick at goal. Ball went down the other end and Atkins blitzed you defence. I've never been a fan of taking the two, even if we did win by it tonight, for me making a side tackle you five times on their own line can be worth more in the long run, and there's always the chance you can score an actual try, you know, the aim. I can accept two pointers when it's close, during the last 5-10 mins or so, but never from the start.

| I must admit, I was glad on a couple of occasions that you took the two. Could have been 6.

| Absolutely hate it, three times we killed the momentum and territory we had for 2 points - on two of those occasions we then made mistakes that created a platform for Warrington. I just don't like the message that taking the 2 sends out unless it is stretching the lead past a single score or tying / winning the game late. Otherwise it just hands the psychiological advantage to the opposition by accepting you won't get 4 or 6 from the territory.

"All I want to know is since when did our balls drop off? I seem to recall about eight years ago with the likes of Farrell, Lam, Newton and Radlinski etc. we ran the fookin' ball every time we got a penalty... kick to the corner and go for the try whilst we have momentum and confidence. Now every time we get a penalty we take the two... bit of a concern that we lack so much belief and confidence in running it. There's only a few occasions I would understand taking the two... either when it's close to half/full time or if you're struggling to even get over the opponents try-line, I didn't see either of those tonight... their defense wasn't all that and they conceded penalty after penalty. On numerous occasions we opted to take the two and we had an enormous amount of possession during the game. If I want to see kick after kick i'll get myself down to Sale Sharks... time to man up, grow a pair and put some fear into the opposition. Teams must be bloody celebrating every time we go for the two... it completely takes the pressure off the side and the ball ends up on the other side of the field for very little gain."'"
I'm not trolling**** Great post. I said the same last night about you taking the 2 points. Do you remember thevWidnes Semi Final in 09? That was the only reason we beat you. Same again in that match. It's early days and both are playing silly. Good luck.

| Is this a Shaun Wane tactic? Not as though conditions were poor for free flowing rugby. I can understand the two penalities in the second half with scores tight but within first ten minutes, especially all the presssue Wigan had in the Wire 20. Reminds me of the 70s and 80s, take the 2 points.

| Nothing wrong with taking the two points. The majority of the time we see teams take a tap and then come up with nothing. The real problem was our stupid discipline, our appalling ball control and Wigan's insistence that with every set we have to score a try. Shifting the ball on tackle 2-3 makes us very predictable. Wane is way out of his depth.

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |
|
| I remember in the 2009 Cup semi-final. Wigan deciding to take the penalty to go 8-0 up but all it did was say to Warrington "Actually, we dont think we can get across your try-line" Pyscological advantage of keeping them out automatically goes to the defending team, even if they concede 2 more points.

| Quote: Cherry.Pie "They were incredibly poor calls. With both teams making so many errors field position was arguably more important than 2 points. Had we kept them under pressure we'd have scored but instead we took the 2 and predictably made errors (although not penalising a ball steal before their first try was a bit of luck) which led to tries.'"
I havent even read the rest of the thread but this sums it up perfectly for me. Every time we took the 2 Warrington were on the back foot and we gave them an easy way out. Building pressure and making Warrinmgton play out from their own line would have been invaluable, never mind the fact that we may have actually scored tries on the back of it anyway. As it was we took the 2 and on every occasion Warrington scored a try immediately after because we then made a mistake and by taking the 2 had given them easy field position so they could then attack our line.

Spot on, couldn't believe the first one - I saw it as a sign of weakness/lack of confidence.
