| Quote: Jeff the God of Biscuits "Would be a massive boost for them if they could sign a player like Ellis. But surely he'd want to be mixing it with a team who are challenging for honours?'"
I would have thought so.
But Ellis said himself he would like to play for his home town club.
He's already achieved a lot in the game, and been successful for both Leeds and Wests.
He might just be looking to land a deal with Cas to see his career off?

| I wouldn't be surprised to see Saints make a move for him. Flannery is leaving at the end of the season and Ellis could be an old head to help the youngsters.

| A top class player, but at 32 he wants a three year deal - no thanks. We've sooo many players in the second row we just don't need another.
I really hope he signs for Castleford. According to a few on here, it's his boyhood dream to play for them in which case I hope he signs for them and none of the top six clubs(us, Wire, Saints, Leeds, Huddersfield and Les Catalans), but rather one of the lower teams. This is not because he'd be an asset to our rivals, more I'd rather see him help raise the standard at another club that needs it!
Either way it will be nice to see him back in Super League after an excellent stint in the NRL.

| I would take Ellis to be honest. He could also play centre. He is a skillfull backrower.

No doubting he's an excellent player, but where would that leave our own if we signed him? We have our main four back rowers - Hansen, Hock, Farrell and Tuson. And then we'll surely be looking to develop Burke and Hughes. Where does that leave those guys if we were to sign Ellis? Jack Hughes has shown he is more than ready for the first team so he'll be adding competition for places there too. Greg Burke is a talented lad who could play prop, second row or loose forward for me. And then there's Liam Farrell and Chris Tuson who seem to get better every week. Ellis would turn 32 and is demanding a three-year contract. That just pushes back our own lads and that's thinking too short-term for me. We've plenty of talented back row forwards here - signing him would be a poor way to use whatever cap space we have left.

I didn't say we should sign him without question. Just that I would take him. I won't complain if the coaching staff see him as a good option for the team. If they don't, I will equally be happy with that.
I would prefer a top class centre, just not sure where he will come from. Inglis and Uate would be brilliant for our next winger/centre partnership.

Fair enough. I wouldn't take him at Wigan. That's not to say he isn't a good player and wouldn't be a good player for us, but I'd sooner think more long-term and develop our own and better utilise the cap space for Inglis and Uate as you've mentioned

No, Leigh, he said he always wanted to play for Leigh, he has a 'thing' about red cabbage.

I don't understand this one bit. so what if we've got four main back rowers in Hansen, Hock, Farrell and Tuson. Are Wigan in the business of trying to please every player who comes through the system? Gareth Ellis, albeit 32, is better than the lot. Why shouldn't we be aiming to improve our squad? Very rarely does somebody of Gareth Ellis' talent come along as available
