Roy the team can't perform.
We will only make the 4 if Catalan continue to disintegrate.
Get out of SW arris and smell some fresh air.

At this point in time "just 3 wins" would guarantee us the chance to get whipped by either Hull or Warrington in the semis in front of their mocking fans. This would be on top of us getting whipped by them in the super 8s.
Its time for some of the underperforming overpaid members of this squad to start earning their dough. The names Smith, Sarginson & Mossop instantly spring to mind, and I'm sure if I spent more than a couple of minutes, I could add another 4 or 5.

| As bad as the last 3 weeks have been I would not be surprised to see us go on a run now.
Infact I wouldn't be surprised if we went undefeated for the next 7 games.

Defensively, as I have said on other threads, we are not in a bad place but to go on such a run we would need to find some attacking prowess from somewhere - that's why we have lost the last three games - we just can't outscore the opposition. I hope we can find that but somehow I doubt it. If, and it is a big if, we can get the likes of Gelling and Farrell back we might stand more chance.

| John winder is our lead assistant coach. Replaced deacon. Yes Wane is head coach but he heads up the defence and winder coaches the attack. We are clueless in attack and it's all down to try g to p, a very flat in the face of the opposition, no second phase, no dummy runners. The style of attack we play prevents free flowing attacking rugby. We are too structured. That is down to winders attacking style. Time for a new approach. Maybe we should just say go out and play off the cuff for a week or two and see what happens.

Wigan rugby league, hated, adored but never ignored
Terry Newton - 07.11.78 - 26.09.10 - R.I.P.: |

| I'm hoping Gelling will be back soon, he's our best attacking option as even he doesn't know what he's gonna do next !
Faz has been a big loss, not sure if we will see him back, his injury is complex and no easy solution to his problem but his return would bolster our pack.
Micky Mac has been a massive loss, Powell has done great in his absence but doesn't have the same impact on the team.
Don't lose faith, let's enjoy the rest of the season and cheer the lads on whatever the outcome.
Already looking forward to next season, we do however need an addition to the coaching set up to make improvements in attack.

| If we have missed one player more than most I'd say it was Farrell. His running out wide and the breaks he can make have been missing from that position since he left the side. This has been a particular loss for us due to the fact a break from him was one of the few ways a bit of unpredictability that found its way into our boring and predictable attack. His return would also allow Bateman to go to the centres is needs be.
I thought despite having some surgery on his ribs (one removed I believe) he was due back very soon. He would make a difference and as what seems to me to be a naturally fit player he'd be up to speed pretty quickly I think.
And that is the problem with Gelling. Whenever he has had long layoff he has seemed to take an absolute age to get back to match fitness.

| I said after the game on Friday that I would shorten our season down now and rest players over the next two weeks. Give players that need it a rest and get some minutes in the legs of lads that need games. We then go full tilt from the Saints game! We should have a really strong side out for that one with a bit of luck and if they can freshen the team up then they can give it a crack.
As good as Hull have been this year and as one dimensional as we look, we were 4 points off them and with some confidence and belief we can get over them and any other superleague side. The extra attacking threat on the edge of Charnley, Gelling and Faz will offer a lot and we'll need it.
Long term I'm starting to think we may need to freshen things up a little on the coaching front (either in terms of a new head coach or some assistance for Wane) but whilst there's still trophies to play for this year we need to go all out.

Dicky that is the first time that I have heard that Winder is the attacking coach. Why doesn't Wane bullet Winder because anyone can see we are poor in attack and take on the role himself or get a new assistant coach?
I would agree with your last sentence. It is worth a go and I'm pretty amazed the players themselves haven't actually done this on match days.

| Was reading his weekly column on Wigan today (Liam Farrell) last Thursday and he said here back for first game of super 8s which is this Friday and if not this Friday then definitely for the Castleford game next week. He's been our biggest miss this season I think, his ability to brake the line while running on an ark which allowes the winger to be brought in has been missed all season. Also with him back this should allow Bateman back into the centres where he's a lot more effective imo, also this hopefully allows Sarginson to be dropped because he's probably the worst player we've got along with Smith. Once Gelling is back then our attack should also improve because he's one of only two players ( Other one being Williams) who plays off the cuff rugby and gives us some unpredictability.
Hopefully now we've only got the Super League to focus on we can improve and hopefully return to Old Trafford again

I hope Farrell is back this week too but I think it'll take him a while to get back up to speed, he's been out for 4 months. Although we're probably still stuck in 1st gear so it might not take him that long actually. And I too would like to see Bateman replace Sarginson but then again Bateman isn't really a winger's centre, he prefers to try and smash it over the line just like Sarginson does. In fact like our whole team does.
